Hi Marek,
That's wonderful news. And Troy made some great points about eating to =
one side and not meowing in the wild.=20
I have to agree with him. Bottom line, the vet will check everything out =
on George when your ready.=20
And as far as eating the scraps he was eating, that kept the sweet =
little boy going for a while.=20
But one essential thing every feline needs is Taurine. VERY IMPORTANT! =
And that is found in cat food.=20
George has adapted to the wild but now you're slowly domesticating him =
so he'll require the kitty food always after a while.
< He's not in imminent danger of dying, so I have decided to
wait on the vet for the time being.>
You've somehow known what to do and not do all along with George so =
trust those instincts.
A heart with so much love speaks clearly.
<At least I fed him real cat food, and the
cans marked "senior" or "special diet" mostly.>
Yes. And if he's hungry for it and eating it up, BRAVO to you. That's a =
good choice.=20
Just try to feed him the best type of those diets that you can afford. =
IAMS is better than Science Diet.
The purina, amore', and all the typical grocery store cat food is really =
bad for them.=20
Though George has practically been eating "rocks" <g> all his wild life, =
as he gets used to kitty food=20
he will need the best you can offer for his health issues and age.=20
Bottom line, this is all just advice...follow YOUR heart. You're doing =
great.
<Last night I had another breakthrough. I finally got him to let me put
both hands on him at the same time. I was petting him rubbing his ears
with both hands, and he was enjoying every moment of it, as he always
does when I pet him.>
That's incredible.....what a great story this is unfolding into. I hope =
you keep us posted all the way.
<Instead of lying down next to the sidewalk and feeding him at the =
corner house,=20
I slowly started walking back to my house, calling him and encouraging
him. He followed me! He followed me all the way to my house! Then I
lay down on my grass and gave him his breakfast. After he was finished
I petted him for a couple minutes, and while I was doing it he decided
he wanted a bit more. He nibbled at the food some more for a few
minutes. And then he suddenly stood up, turned around, and walked back
to the house on the corner. I called after him, and he turned around
to look, but he was intent on returning "home." >
Yes...that's what feels the safest as "home" right now, IMHO, because =
that's where he's use to being.=20
Give him time. It won't be long by the sounds of it.
<I won't have to trap
him and bring him to my house by force.>
Now.....I know you know that's not only dangerous for you, but there's =
no point in, out of the blue, =20
making him feel like he's being attacked. That would ruin things for =
both of you, IMHO.
<If no one here has ever heard of a cat that never meows, then I doubt
that a vet has heard of it either.>
There is a species of dog that does not bark (don't remember which it =
is)
AND there is a breed of cat that does not meow (again I don't remember =
which).
Troy made an excellent point on that as well. A vet will know for sure.
<As I have been observing him I've noticed that the fluid that comes
out of his eyes is clear, exactly like tears. A couple times a drop
has run down his nose and fallen on the ground. Since he doesn't wash
himself very well, it tends to dry into goop. I think if it were
caused by an infection it would be goopy to begin with. At this time I
favor your allergy theory.>
Well...that seems kind of excessive with the tear running right off his =
little nose but
he has been outside through it all. Troy brought a good point up =
concerning that also.
<By the way, over the course of the past month I've been cutting at his
matted fur while feeding him. He sort of tolerates it as long as I
don't go too fast. He has decided he likes to be combed too, although
not in every location yet. As a result I've got him looking almost
like a respectable cat.>
This just gets better and better! *BRAVO!*
<I think in a couple weeks he'll be living with me full time. Not sure
yet if I'll have him indoors all the time. I've seen him poop and pee
a few times, and he makes zero effort to cover it up. My house does
still have a cat flap from when I had a cat before. It remains to be
seen whether he can be taught to use it. But one step at a time. I'm
in no hurry, and George doesn't seem to be either.>
That's it. No hurry.....take your time.=20
And BTW, over here in east coast America, I never heard the term "cat =
flap".....what does that refer to?=20
A traditional kitty box with cat litter in it? Just curious.
Thank you for sharing your story and PLEASE keep us posted here.
May the Great Spirit bless you with all good things for you and yours =
(that means Georgie too!)
