Hi there!
My impression of Wikis are they're great for maintaining
loosely-structured
text, but not more structured data. This led to a question: Can wiki
pages
have components sourced as "slices" from another wiki page?
To see how this is useful, consider these wikipedia.org pages on Uruguay
and
Paraguay:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paraguay
Each has a table at top right with vital stats for each country.
However,
the tables seem maintained by hand and subtly differ in format - for eg:
the
table for Paraguay has no entry for "GDP". It would be better if both
tables
were actually 'slices' of a huge wiki table on another pages where vital
stats of all countries could be maintained in one place.
Perhaps a wiki page could refer to specific element/sub-elements from
another page using named DIVs or XHTML?
I read up on Wiki "transclusion" here:

... and also a bit about "purple numbers" (for eg: as used here:
http://www.eekim.com/software/purple/purple.html).
But can one select a column of data? Can a purple number that represent
a
column (or set of columns) be automatically derived from purple numbers
of
individual table cells?
