Well, I watched the season premiere last night and I remain hooked to
the show. Frankly, I don't care much about the political viewpoints
expressed by the characters. It's only a TV show, for chrissake. I
give as much credence to Jed Bartlett's opinions as I did Granny
Clampett's recipe's for possum. I think it is one of the most
well-written, best acted shows in television. And that is a rarity.
But when I go to the lunch table at work, everyone has only seen stuff
like "Buffy" or "Fear Factor".
Another show that is head and shoulders, etc (but NBC seems determined
to bury it) is "Boomtown". They hardly promote it, and when they do
its a break at the end of another program when folks are in the
kitchen or the bathroom. I've written NBC and told them I hope another
network picks up the show and mops the floor with 'em!
I just think the CW employed by today's entertainment press is skewed
towards the young and fluffy. So when something new comes along that
is slightly 'cerebral', they get uncomfortable because it's hard for
them to think any deeper than their last face peel. "ER" and "Law and
Order" are usually spared journalistic lambasting because they are
workhorses that will be milked to their last plot twist. They only
quit making Perry Mason movies because Raymond Burr died.
