In another posts, one of Bowel Movements, I pointed out that I would
post some sutf on BB creator Sherwood Schwartz';s other classic,
GILLIGANS ISLAND due to a REALLY OFF TOPCI and ergo not worhtwhile
NG--and one that I think is TOTALLY absent..anyway.
V FOR VITAMINS.
Originally broadcast on what would be Sarah Michelle Gellar (BUFFY
VAMPIRE SLAYER)'s birthday 11 years before her time (1966), April 14,
this had Gilligan (after deciding how to cope with a seriosu vitamin C
deficiency!) dreaming that he si Jack (as in..AND THE BEANSTALK!(). he
meets Mary Ann as the French fairy, and the Skippert as jolly green
Giant! (after going up the jolly green beanstaslk).
The episode was directed by longtime GILLIGAN and BRADY fixture Jack
Arnold (also the namesake of WONDER YEAR'S Fred Savage character--and
to think that WY takes place in the SAME TIME!)-that's right, the
WONDER YEARS was set in the turbulent late 1960s, and the lead kid's
name's Jack Arnold, and in the same turblent 1960s, the BRADY's &
GILLIGAN's were on and what would the extremely prolific
producer-director's name be? Wnhy, non other than JACK ARNOLD!).
However, ity's thew only episode wirttne by LUX RADIO THEATRE oldtime
radio theatre (& OUTER LIMTIS TV) scribe Barney Slater.
It had some interestingl;y original music alognside the stock standard
"cues" devised by composer Gerald Fried for the show--the BEanstalks'
piano theme as it goes to the sky to the snickering of the laughtracks.
Gilligan sure had a lot of odd nightmares as did:
Mary Ann (THE POSTMAN COMETH)
The Howells (Thurston, THE MILLIONAIRE, and Lovey, LOVEY'S SECFRET
ADMIRER)
The Skipper, Gilligan Howell and prof. (ST GILLIGAN AND THE DRAGON)
Oddly, the Bradys didn't save for Peter's famous Jesse James one 0 this
had not only veteran radio/TV actor Burt Mustin (ALL IN THE FAMILY &
LEAVE IT TO BEAVER) but a DeVol besides BB composer Frank, a Gorodn De
Vol.:)
(Forgot who wrote and firected tyhat.)
