Bobby's sexual profile is considered in three episodes. The first and second
establish and reestablish Bobby as having a penis complex, fearing that his
penis, which is smaller than both his brothers and his father's will not be
adequate enough to please women or allow him to be a successful, normal male.
Being the youngest of three boys, he has noticed that his penis is the smallest
of the four men, and to his young mind this creates a complex, as he can not
reason that it is the right size for his age. The first episode, which
establishes this, is when Bobby developes a complex about being short and
proceeds to stretch himself from a chinning bar every day and keep the results
on paper. Although on the literal level he is trying to grow taller, on the
subconscious sexual level he is trying to get his penis to grow larger.
However, at the end of the episode he realizes he cannot stretch himself into a
bigger man by artificial means and will just have to let nature take its
course. The second episode that reestablishes Bobby's penis complex is when he
notices that Greg and Peter have all kinds of trophies and medals for sports
and he himself has none. This creates in him more self conscious dilemas and
conflicts about his manhood and so he decides to enter an ice cream contest he
sees advertised on television. He goes on to enter this ice cream contest and
is disgusted by the grotesqueness of the whole affair and at the end of the
contest no longer feels as self conscious about his small penis. Interestingly
enough, the ice cream eating contest is an intensely charged sexual affair,
overseen by the stereotypical pedophilic clown who titilates and arouses
himself by watching children eat ice cream in a manner that represents
cunnilingus. After the episode Bobby feels less self conscious about his small
penis because he has seen a grown adult engaged in a far more embarassing
situation.
The last episode concerns Bobby's sexual desires towards his matched sibling
Cindy. This is the episode where Cindy loses her doll Kitty Carryall and
accuses Bobby of stealing it. Bobby admits that he would like to get rid of
the doll, but claims he would never do anything like that. Bobby then goes on
to spend his life's savings on a new doll Kitty Carryall doll, but obviously
the first doll has some special sentimental meaning for Cindy, and she rejects
the doll, now convinced that Bobby indeed stole the doll. Then Bobby loses his
harmonica and blaims Cindy, then someone else loses something until they figure
out that it is the dog Tiger who has hidden everything in his doghouse and
everything is back to normal. This is the story on the literal level, but it is
highly charged with a very complex sexual message that conveys alot about both
Bobby and Cindy's character and sexual profile. The Kitty doll is a symbol of
Cindy's innocence or virginity. Bobby's repressed desire to "get rid of it" is
a desire or fantasy to rape her or have sex with her, but of course, as he
says, he would never do that. When Cindy finds the Kitty (you could even say
it's like her hyman) missing, however, she fears that Bobby has somehow raped
her in her sleep. Bobby, feeling sorry for his sister and her conflict spends
his lifes savings on a new doll, but he doesnt understand the importance of her
maidenhood to her. When he finds his harmonica missing it is as if she cut his
dick off for trying to have sex with her while she was sleeping. But then we
realize that the dog just hid everything from them and it was all just fantasy
and not reality. When Cindy sees her doll she cries out "My Kitty" and she
might as well cry out "My Pussy" because she is happy to see it intact. So
here we see Bobby characterized as a true brother and gentleman, who, although
he fantasizes about his sister sexually, would not take advantage of her while
she was sleeping.. This is in contrast to Peter, who we will see later is sort
of a mischevous type who would jump at the chance. Perhaps it is his small
penis complex that leads him towards more chilvarous and less dominant behavior
concerning his sisters, or perhaps that is just part of his psychology.
