Greg's profile as a premature ejaculator was established by the episode where
he goes to work for his father at the architect office. This profile is then
reestablished in other episodes such as the drivers test.
In the episode where Greg goes to work for his father, the story begins with
Greg beginning to realize that in order to get what he wants (girls/sex) he
will probably have to achieve status as a man and by asking his father for a
job he is basically seeking out his fathers help in his adult development.
He begins working for his father doing mundane tasks but quickly grows bored
and seeks a "real" task. His father responds by giving him important
architectural plans in a sealed large tube-like carrier. Greg is supposed to
make sure this tube gets safely to its destination because it contains Mike's
important work (life work architecture). Greg then excitedly races off on his
bike only to be met in the street by a pretty girl who inquires about Greg's
new job and seems awfully impressed by Greg's new approach towards manhood.
Greg, realizing that his new job and status will most assuredly get him more
attention and possibly sex from girls, becomes extremely overwhelmed and
excited. Without paying attention to the plans, the cap to the tube falls off
onto the ground and the white paper plans slide down onto the concrete as well.
Greg leaves the site, flabergasted by the girls attention to him and has
totally forgotten about the plans. Following this incident the father has to
redraw the plans and then Greg is determined to find the old plans and the
father wonders if Greg is ready for such responsibility (ready to be a man).
There is some scorn for Greg as he has obviously let his affection for girls
get in the way of his manhood. This is the story on the literal level. But on
the cruder more sexual level, the tube in which the plans are kept is a
metaphor for the passing of the torch, or to be more specific and more sexual,
the passing of the penis from father to son. Greg is taking his first step
and interest in becoming a man and his father responds by giving him some
responsibility and the plans which are essentially a metaphor for genetic
material or sperm. The large tube in which they are kept is a symbol of the
adult male penis which Greg is trying to handle and transport over transport
over to its destination, which symbolically would be his wife or a woman.
However, he gets caught up with a young girl on his way, no doubt enamored of
this large penis she sees Greg with. Greg gets so excited and sexually
aroused, that the tube opens up and its contents spill on the ground, which is
a metaphor for premature ejaculation, which is Gregs hangup or major sexual
profile. He becomes so excited at the promise of sex with the opposite sex
that he jizzes all over the ground and cannot wait to get the tube (penis) to
its destination.
This tendancy to ejaculate on site of a woman or female is Greg's sexual
profile. . It stems from his strong attraction to women, as well as the fact
that he has three non-related girls in the next room of his home, all of which
are developing sexual fantasies about him, being the oldest of three boys it is
easiest for the three girls to develope crushes or fantasies of domination
about him. He himself is strongly attracted to the girls next door, especially
Marcia, and must constantly stuggle to keep his sexual urges from overwhelming
his sense of responsibility and duty. His pent up sexual energy he developes
in living with these three younger girls, all of which are sex objects to him,
overwhelms as soon as he leaves his house and can freely fantasize without
worry of being discovered. This is Greg's conflict, as displayed in this
episode, which shows him at this age unable to tame his sexual desire for
women, often ejaculating on site of them or by just talking or thinking of
them.
This sexual profile is re-established in the drivers test episode where he and
marcia are competing to see who gets their drivers license first. This is a
metaphor for who is able to get to adulthood first, i.e. who is able to
overcome their childhood sexual problem first, in Greg's case premature
ejaculation, in Marcia's case, her lack of sexual restraint and nymphomania.
Their parents devise a test, where they each have to drive close to a cone
without knocking the fragile egg off the top of it. Whoever gets closest to
the cone without breaking the egg is the winner. The contest is one of
self-control and restraint. Marcia does the test first and comes fairly close
to the cone but does not break the egg, indicating she has developed some
self-control when it comes to boys and sex. Greg wants desperately to win, and
his mind, charged with thoughts about Marsha, as he reiterates her name in his
head, becomes more and more sexual aroused with thoughts of his sister, and
mistakingly steps on the gas much to heavily, knock the cone and the egg breaks
all over the sidewalk. This is yet another metaphor for Greg's premature
ejaculation problem. Everytime he is faced with the test of adulthood, he is
unable to exhibit control. In this case, his thoughts about Marcia transform
themselves into some kind of sexual fantasy which causes him to once again
premature ejaculate and break the egg. The egg oozes all over the sidewalk,
much like the architectural plans of the previously mentioned episode.
These two episodes, on the literal level, which are about Greg growing up and
maturing, include subconscious sexual cues that give the audience member clear
information about Greg's sexual profile and keeps them more excited and aroused
by the show knowing it is not just a silly show about bicycles cars driving
test and architecture plans, but about spilling sperm on the ground and large
penises and having repressed sexual thoughts about your sister.
