Yah, but I know that some of those films (like "Black Caesar" and
"Superfly") were and are treasured in their own community. They were
considered relevant because the black characters weren't shunted to
secondary roles. For all the exploitation value the films still opened
up a commercial niche for black cinema that was often lacking earlier.
