DEARLY BELOVED BEEZER
Senior Judge Robert R. Beezer, affectionately known as the
conservative "Hanging Judge" of the Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of
Appeals has died (not from hanging, from something else, they said).
After being appointed in 1984 by President Ronald Reagan,
the Honorable Judge Beezer heard more than 10,000 cases
in his 28 years on the nation's largest federal appeals court,
and presided over approximately 10,000 hangings, none of which
were unconstitutionally cruel.
In Case No. 89-35210, 62 USLW 2522, 18 F.3d 662, etc, etc,
of Charles Rodman CAMPBELL, Petitioner-Appellant, versus
Tana WOOD, Superintendent, Washington State Walla Walla
Penitentiary, Judge Beezer, in writing for the majority said
that the affirmed writ of certiorari considered en banc
in the denial of the pending dissolution of the stay of
suborned evidentiary hearing, res ipsa loquitur, in lieu
of perpetuity of prima facie privity of habeas corpus petition
could be rendered ex facie and summarily denied, and that
futhermore hanging by the neck until dead was certainly
less cruel than embowelling alive, beheading, and quartering;
public dissection; and burning alive.
Beezer noted that in similar manner to how the eyes might bulge
out during a hanging, it was a well known fact that hanging can
often cause the male organ to bulge out in a death erection,
allowing the executed convict to enjoy a final orgasm in
addition to his final meal.
Our Dearly Beloved Judge Beezer leaves three childen- Geezer,
Sneezer, and Wheezer Beezer, and two grandchildren, Beaver and
Ebeneezer Beezer.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Numskulls
The strip first appeared in The Beezer in 1962 and was drawn by
Malcolm Judge. In this version they lived inside a man's head
rather than a boy's head. The man was never named, but the
Numskulls referred to him as "our Man".
The strip is about some tiny human like creatures that live
inside the head of Edd Case (a pun on head case), a boy, and
control his actions.
We can see the typical interaction between the numskulls in the
story "An Alarm clock gives them a shock" which appeared in The
Beezer Book 1980. "Our Man" is pictured asleep in the first
panel and in the second we see Luggy in the Ear Dept. awoken by
the sound of the alarm clock next to "our Man's" bed. Using an
intercom system Luggy sends a message to Brainy that the alarm
clock is ringing. Brainy, in turn uses his intercom system to
wake up all the other numskulls and feeds the written message
"Switch off alarm!" into the suggestion box. We then see "our
Man" thinking "Noisy alarm! I'll switch it off. Where is it?" In
the following panel we see Luggy informing Brainy that the alarm
is still ringing whilst Brainy reads a print-out from the
computer "Where is it?".
It transpires that Blinky, who is in charge of the man's eyes,
has neglected his duty by staying in bed. The other two
Numskulls burst into his department and force him out of bed.
Grumbling, Blinky opens the man's eyes with a hand-crank whilst
Brainy and Luggy stow his bedding in cabinets under the eyes. In
the last panel we see "our Man" reflecting that he couldn't open
his eyes this morning
The Numskulls stood out from the other comic strips in the
Beezer in that it addressed the metaphysical questions that
fascinate children and philosophers such as - where do thoughts
come from and why do people do as they do?

Beezer's Fountain by Captain Jack
As a self-proclaimed progressive in an otherwise conservative
neighborhood, I was tickled to see a whacked-out artist move in
across the street.
The day I walked over to welcome him to the neighborhood, I
found him in his front yard, dressed like a Haight Ashbury
hippie. I watched him arranging some large, odd-shaped objects
that could've been animals or people or just blobs of his
imagination. Greeting him, I nodded at his handiwork. "That
ought to liven up this neighborhood."
He shot me a self-gratifying smirk only an artist could fashion.
"You like it, man?"
Not that I understood the stuff, but I couldn't deny its curious
appeal. "Love it." I thrust my hand out. "Jack Wisdom."
"Call me Beezer." He clutched my hand, simultaneously patting my
shoulder. "Always like to meet an admirer of good art."
I basked in his compliment. "So you met any other neighbors yet?"
He gazed around at the neighboring houses. "Not really. They'll
drive by and glance over. One guy in a red Hummer stopped and
stared. When I waved, he just shook his head and drove off."
"Ah, that'd be Ralph Jasper. King of the rednecks." I chuckled.
"This ain't exactly Woodstock around here, Beezer. Don't let
these guys faze you."
A week later, as I approached my driveway, I glimpsed a large,
cylindrical edifice in Beezer's yard, towering above his other
works. Focusing my eyes, I beheld an eight foot penis. It stood
proud, circumcised and, literally, erect. I could cope with
other body parts--maybe some big, shiny buttocks or a tasteful
pair of boobs--but something about a grandiose penis jolted my
dignity. My "freedom-of-expression" tolerance evaporated as I
anticipated this tribute to manhood exposing itself to my nine-
year-old daughter, Katy. Though I'd christened myself a free-
thinker, I drew the line at public hard-ons.
That evening I couldn't shake the phallic monstrosity from my
mind. I briefly considered stealing it, but envisioned my mug
shot in the newspaper with the headline: "Man grabs penis, flees."
If it distressed me to this extent, I knew that prickly monument
must infuriate my more reactionary neighbors

Judge Beezer designed Ms. Lee as the sole death penalty clerk in
his chambers. In that role, Ms. Lee reviewed and analyzed every
death penalty case that came before Judge Beezer during her term.
During her tenure as Judge Coughenour's law clerk, Ms. Lee
prepared bench memos on numerous death penalty cases and drafted
orders for the judge's signature. As a result of her experience
in the district and circuit chambers, she was appointed by Judge
Beezer to serve on the circuit's task force to update procedures
for processing habeas petitions in the court.
In both of her clerkships, Ms. Lee worked on death penalty matters.
Recently, Ms. Lee represented Daniel McGowan, an environmental
activist accused of domestic terrorism in connection with arson
in the Western United States. Ms. Lee moved for production of
NSA surveillance of the defendants in the case, which led to
successful hearings and plea negotiations. Ms. Lee has also
represented clients in international terrorism investigations.
For example, shortly after September 11, dozens of Middle
Eastern truck drivers were rounded up around the United States,
on the suspicion that they might drive trucks loaded with
hazardous materials into American buildings. Ms. Lee and her
partner Jeff Robinson represented a client arrested and taken
into custody in the Seattle area. Since 2001, Ms. Lee has been a
frequent speaker on the Patriot Act, the National Security
Administration's domestic surveillance program, national
security letters, the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, and
domestic terrorism.
