MOSCOW- A disgraced Russian army colonel convicted
of murdering a Chechen teenage girl was gunned down
in a brazen, contract-style killing next to a playground
in central Moscow, investigators said.
Police feared that Budanov's body may have been booby-trapped,
and for hours left it as they found it - face down against
a curb. Also, the police did not want to disturb children
who were playing "Boo Bunch Bean Bag Toss Game" and using
Badinoff's body as the bean bag.
Budanov was one of only a handful of Russian officers to be
prosecuted over what rights groups say were widespread
atrocities, including kidnaping, torture, rape, and
extra-judicial killings.
During the trial, part of the evidence that led to
Badenough's conviction was his tell-tale habit of
quoting from his favorite childhood TV show,
"Rocky and Bullwinkle". He would alternately be found
making infantile, vulgar references to "Rocky's nuts"
(a sexual innuendo based on the cartoon character,
Rocky, being a "flying squirrel)", and on
Badinov's own private blog, referring frequently to
"moose and squirrel".
Visa Kungayev (no relation to Mastercard Kungayev,
and who by the way is not gay), who lives with his
family in Norway, and was the father of Bundanov's victim,
was quoted by RIA Novosti news agency that the shooting of
Boris Badinov was a "dog's death for a dog".
Visa's wife, Natasha, corrected him (also borrowing his Mastercard)
by noting that this was actually a contract squirrel-shooting
by a mercenary, for-hire West Virginny squirrel-hunter.

A tale he told me presumably belongs in the realm of mythology,
