An optimist thinks that every mushroom cloud has
a silver lining.
I would say that it has been imminent for the last 50 years.
The only mystery is how we managed to avoid it for so long.
If George W. had been President during the Cuban Missile Crisis,
with his style, it probably would have ballooned into total war,
and it all would have been over in the 1960s.
JFK bought us 50 years of borrowed time. Unfortunately
after the right-wing fascists, the Nixons and Bushes
and their ilk, conspired to murder Kennedy, we don't have him
to save our sorry selves, anymore.
Let's see, where I can find a Message of Hope, so I be a
saint like the Pope? Somebody please find me a box to stand on:
"The unbearable pain of the unspeakable tragedy of life
is relieved somewhat by the realization that in the final
analysis, nothing really matters. Life is only a short
eyeblink of conscious awareness of pain,
sandwiched in between two eternal oblivions, like
a sandwich with too much bread and too little filling.
Oblivion will dull the pain of the grain of sand of Time
that you have, briefly, in your eye. Let us drink a toast
to the Void, that we cannot for long avoid".
Prophets of doom are never wrong. They can only be premature.
