I don't particularly sympathize with talk of "evil Jews"
any more than I can tolerate right-wing religious bigots
in Israel who talk of gays "dirtying" their holy city.
Those are religious bigots who just happen to be Jewish
and who just happen to be evil. I believe to my bones that
Jewish people are just people, like gay people are.
Just people, just damned like the whole human race is
for its inability to coexist.
If I were going to pick a religion, I would say that I were
an extremely unorthodox Jew, because the real soul of
Jewishness is its penchant for being mindlessly persecuted-
now a mantle that we can claim even better than they
can.
They at least have their own country, even if beleaguered,
and their own nuclear weapons.
We gay people cannot much hope for our own country,
so the best that we can do is to hope for nuclear weapons.
That is a scenario that most people cannot picture, but
which I am trying to help them to visualize.
Somehow, it seems to me natural that when the Jews
were at their peak of persecution, it was mostly Jewish
people who were managing to beat the Nazis to nuclear
technlogy- Einstein, Oppenheimer.
Gays are so badly persecuted throughout so much of
the world, even in comparison to Jews, it would be only
natural for there to come onto the scene, a gay Oppenheimer.
That is part of the fantasy that I generate, obviously.
Wouldn't it shock the world, if that fantasy became a reality,
and the people whom so many mocked so much could
take the human race by the throat? I think that the world
will learn to backpedal very quickly, adopt a much
nicer tone, learn much more realistically to tell the
difference betwen of what sorts of changes they can get
used to, and what it is really worth fighting over.
I shall be talking in great length- rationally, not just
surrealistically, to prove the point that it is a perfectly
credible scenario that gays could go after nuclear
weapons every bit as easily as Al Quaeda, and probably
be more effective at it. We are home-grown, and if
starting early enough, in the universities, can go underground
and penetrate every facility. We cannot be identified by
our skin, and do not have names like "Mohammed Islamaramadan"
to give us away. Hometown boys, with Southern accents,
talking about baseball, with pictures of the wife and kids
on the desk.
It does not seem to me like such a far-away world.
I have rubbed shoulders (in fact, even warmly rubbed
thighs) with nuclear physicists, before. I recall a nuclear
physicist at Los Alamos assuring me once that it really
was possible for a college graduate to build a nuclear
weapon.
I swear, you could make technicolor video of nuclear
disaster hanging like the sword of Damoclese, and the
idiots of this world would never learn to watch their
yapping mouths. This world is one, big nuclear
Columbine High School.
Does the world not have its hands full enough with
Iran and North Korea? Does it really need to spawn new
enemies with gratituitious hate rhetoric, like the religious
hate-mongers in Jerusalem? Does it occur to no one that
a burning gay bar in Jerusalem might lead to cities burning
in kind, someday?
Oppenheimer supposedly associated with far-left characters,
you know. Lost his security clearance over it. How it
inspires my heart, to read about it.
The Rosenbergs were great people. I love them. I would
love to channel for Ethyl Rosenberg's ghost, what an honor.
