What is the deeper meaning of 'The Man Who Was Thursday'? (alt.surrealism)

I've just read the book. I enjoyed it a lot.
For me it is a great criminal story with loads of twists in the plot.
But i'm not quite sure of the deeper meaning of the book.
Maybe it opposes the pessimism? What'd you reckon?
