In the Boulevard de la Bastille, torn layers of posters made in 1968 at
the Revolutionary
site of the Boulevard de la Bastille, were pasted over with images of De
Gaulle at the
time of his election campaign in June 1968. These were soon disfigured.
Despite the
strength of the students' revolt, De Gaulle was returned to power by an overwhelming
majority anxious to restore order and peace.
