How to Use the Crack That You Have Found!
BEFORE you do anything at all - SCAN THE CRACK FOR VIRUS'S!!!
DO IT NOW!!!!
A Tutorial for Using Crack Files:
Please, be sure and read through this entire document *before*
attempting to use a crack file...
There are many different types of cracks files, however, they
can be divided into three basic categories:
1. Serial numbers cracks. These cracks can include a serial
numbers, user's name, organization name, registration keys or
numbers and even cd-key numbers.
2. Registry cracks. These are files which end in .REG and will
place registration entry information in your Window's registry
file.
3. Patches or what is technically a true "crack" file. These
files are named as such because they actually change or alter
the original executable (.EXE) file that came with your program.
There is a fourth type of crack, known as RS Agent cracks, also
known as Sales Agent, is a protection system (or wrapper) but
there are specific cracks for it. They usually come in two
versions: Try&Buy, and Buy Only. There are a fair amount
of cracks that work on these protection schemes, it's just not
stated openly in the nfo that it's a particular protection
scheme, depends on the crack, so we have included this type of
crack in our discussion.
Now that you know the different types of crack files, you need
to know what to do with each one of these files. Basically there
are three steps involved in using a crack file. Step one consists
of unpacking the file. Step two consists of determining what type
of crack file it is and how to apply it. Step three is applying
the crack.
Step 1: Unpacking your Suitcase
Step one, is "unpacking" the file. You will find that most crack
files come in some sort of compressed format. This saves time
moving the files around on the Internet. In order to 'uncompress'
(commonly referred to as "unzipping") the file you will need the
program that is designed to "unzip it."
Determining which program you will need is relatively simple:
look at the *last* three letters of the file name, put a WIN in
front of those three letters and you have the name of the program
you will need (i.e. WinRAR, WinZIP, and WinACE). In other words,
if the file you had was CuteFTP234.zip, you would need WinZIP to
uncompress the file. If the file ended in .RAR you would use
WinRAR, and .ACE would mean you need WinACE.
These programs are extremely easy to install and, for the most
part, easy to use. If you do not already have the program you will
need to download it and install it before you can uncompress your
file. You can get these programs here:
WinZIP - ftp://ftp2.winzip.com/winzip81.exe
WinRAR - http://216.40.248.4/rar/wrar30b5.exe
WinACE - http://winace.megarock-radio.com/wace211.exe
When you do unzip your files, be sure to remember *** to what
folder or directory you are unzipping the files***. This will
allow you to go into that directory or folder later and use, or
apply, the files. .
Step 2: Figuring Out What is in Your Suitcase
Determining what type of crack you have is based on the knowledge
about "file types". The term "file types" refers, again, to the
last three letters of the file name -- the three letters to the
right of the period (or dot). These three letters will basically
dictate what you need to do with each file. Some of the most
common 'file types' you will find in a crack file are listed below:
ACE - occasionally the individual who assembled the crack may, for
some reason, include another compressed file inside the crack
file. These files can be unzipped by the same means as
means as discussed in number one (above). However,
**before** doing so, I suggest that you read the NFO file
(below) to see if it is necessary.
BAT - if you want to view this file, you can open this file in any
text file viewer or editor such as Notepad that comes with Windows.
But, to actually use the file, simply double click on the file
name in Windows explorer.
COM - to actually use this file, simply double click on the file
name in Windows explorer.
DIZ - open this file in any text file viewer or editor such as
Notepad that comes with Windows.
EXE - to actually use this file, simply double click on the file
name in Windows explorer.
NFO - open this file in any text file viewer or editor such as
Notepad that comes with Windows. This is the most important file
in every crack, this is the file that tells you how to use or
apply the remaining files in the crack.
RAR - occasionally the individual who assembled the crack may,
for some reason, include another compressed file inside the crack
file. These files can be unzipped by the same means as means as
discussed in number one (above). However, **before** doing so, I
suggest that you read the NFO file (below) to see if it is
necessary.
REG - if you want to view this file, you can open this file in
any text file viewer or editor such as Notepad that comes with
Windows. But, to actually use the file, simply double click on
the file name in Windows explorer.
TXT - open this file in any text file viewer or editor such as
Notepad that comes with Windows.
ZIP - occasionally the individual who assembled the crack may,
for some reason, include another compressed file inside the crack
file. These files can be unzipped by the same means as means as
discussed in number one (above). However, **before** doing so,
I suggest that you read the NFO file (below) to see if it is
necessary.
Additionally, the individual who compressed the file, may have put
a file in the zipped file named "README." If this occurs, simply
open this file in any text file viewer or text editor such as
Notepad that comes with Windows.
Step 3: Using What is in Your Suitcase
Once you have the contents of your crack file unzipped into a
specific folder, open Windows Explorer and go to that directory
or folder (see I told you it was important). The very first file
you should look for is the NFO file. As I stated earlier, this is
basically your bible, it will give you step-by-step instructions
as to what to do with the other files that came with the
crack file.
**General guidelines**
The following guidelines apply to every crack file you may
encounter -- you need to follow and be aware of everyone of them:
**Crack files can and DO contain a virus -- SCAN ALL FILES BEFORE
USING THEM**
- The very first file you should look for is the NFO file. Find
it, open it, and READ it before using any crack.
- .REG files will alter the registry entries in your windows
registry file, (usually) the only way of removing them is manually
editing you Windows registry file using RegEdit.exe.
- If someone sends you a crack that has a file extension of .COM
or .EXE, open this file with a program such as UltraEdit, the old
Windows Write program, or any editor than is capable of viewing
(binary) COM, and EXE files. Look for words like DEL, DELTREE,
RENAME, ATTRIB. If you find these types of words in the file --
DO NOT EXECUTE THE FILE, it is probably designed to change the
contents of your hard drive (i.e. DELETE EVERYTHING ON IT!)
Now that we have an understanding of the general guidelines to
follow using a crack file, let's look at how to use each of the
three types of crack files we discussed earlier:
**Serial Number Cracks **
You will generally be given a serial number in one of three
formats:
1 - in an e-mail message,
2 - in the NFO file (or a TXT - text) file, or
3 - you will be able to make your own using a key generator
(keygen, kg etc).
A keygen or key generator, is used to calculate (most often)
a serial number which matches required registration information.
For example, a keygen for Winzip would provide you the serial
number 07641519 for my name, Frau Himmel. You simply type in
the name, press OK or Calculate depending on the keygen and use
the information to register the program.
Some keygens require name, company, email and/or other
information. Use whatever you prefer. Some info cannot exceed
a certain number of characters, other require a certain minimum.
Other keygens generate a file that you must copy to a specific
folder. Read the .nfo file that is usually packaged with the
keygen for specific instructions. (Frau Himmel)
Regardless of how you get the serial number, which can include:
- serial numbers,
- CD keys,
- user names,
- key codes, or
- other numbers not mentioned above.
You will have to enter this information into the program in order
to "register" it. The most common way of entering this information
is to:
1 - start the program,
2 - click on the menu items (usually the HELP menu) across the top
of the program, looking for the word register,
3 - click on that choice,
4 - you should now be able to enter your registration information.
Some "evaluation", "Try and Buy", and demo programs are written
in such a way that you will not be given the opportunity to
register the program until AFTER it evaluation period has expired.
You can easily circumvent this problem by changing the system
date on your computer. Simply double click on the TIME in the task
bar, then set the date ahead by two months, then repeat the steps
above. Usually, if the program was written this way, as soon as
you start the program, you will be "extended the opportunity to
register it." If it is not the case, continue with the steps
above. If you still cannot enter the registration info, you will
need to follow the instructions below for a registration or patch
crack. Several demo, evaluation, and try &buy programs are not
designed to be registered.
If you were successful in entering the registration information,
run the program and check to see if it actually registered the
program.
**Registry Cracks **
Registry cracks are the easiest cracks to use! ALL registration
cracks contain a file that ends (last three letters to the right
of the period or dot) in REG. A REG (registry) file can be
ANYWHERE on your hard drive (i.e. in any folder or directory and
still work correctly). To use these types of cracks, all you have
to do is (in the Windows Explorer) double click on the file name.
That's it, that is all there is to it. If it worked correctly,
Windows will return a message that states: "...the registry
information for...was entered in your windows registry file.."
Note: some registration files can be edited to add your name
before executing (clicking on it), so READ the NFO file first!!!
If you were successful in entering the registration information,
run the program and check to see if it actually registered the
program.
**Patch Cracks **
These types of crack are also relatively simple to use. To
execute the file, you simply (in Windows Explorer) double
click on the file name. However, a note of caution here: most
ALL patch (crack) files MUST be in the directory or folder
where you installed the program. So, you have to copy the EXE
or COM file to that directory or folder before clicking on it.
Again, READ THE NFO file, it will tell you step-by-step what
to do.
Also, it is important to note that the program that is to be
patched cannot, in most cases, be running when the patch is
applied (when you double click the file name). This is because
Windows will not allow the executable to be changed while it is
running. If you attempt this an error message will be displayed
and the program will not be patched.
Sometimes, even when the program is NOT running, you'll get the
same error message. This happens when the file to be patched is
one that Windows automatically loads into memory. In this case,
reboot your computer into Safe Mode by pressing F8 when you see
the "Now Starting Windows xx" (where xx= 95, 98 , ME, etc. or
whatever version of Windows you happen to be running) and select
the corresponding choice of booting into Safe Mode. This will
prevent the file that is to be patched from loading into memory
and it can, therefore, be patched. In rare cases even booting in
Safe Mode will not work. In this case, follow the same steps you'd
use to boot into Safe Mode but, instead, select the corresponding
choice for MS-DOS Mode or Safe Mode Command Prompt Only. You will
then have to manually navigate the directories using command line
entries. Remember that the directory names use only the first 6
letters then ~1 or, in rare cases where 2 or more sub-directories
have the same first 6 letters, ~2, ~3, etc.
Example: C:\Program Files\ would be C:\Progra~1\
Once you have applied the patch (crack) run the program and check
to see if it actually registered the program. Some patches allow
you to enter your registration information after you have applied
the patch. Again check the NFO file.
There is one other type of crack that we have not yet discussed.
it is the:
**RS Agent Cracks **
I consider this a high specialized crack and normally written for
a specific program that could not be cracked any other way.
Basically, it takes you through the process of "purchasing" the
software. However, NO ACTUAL TRANSACTION TAKES PLACE!
You will know that it is an RS Agent crack as they normally have
RSAG in the file name, and by reading the NFO file. In order to
use these cracks, I strongly suggest you print out the NFO file,
follow it step-by-step, checking off each step as you complete it.
If the process works correctly, when you are done, you will have
a fully registered copy of the program.
