Record companies bid to sign 16-year-old

From Ananova

Record companies are reported to be bidding to sign an unknown schoolgirl
who's debut single could be the Christmas No.1.

16-year-old Erin Rocha, from Poole in Dorset.

Her debut song Can't Do Right for Doing Wrong, which was meant as an album
track for Norah Jones, has made it on to the BBC Radio 2 playlist.

The youngster is signed to a small independent company, Flying Sparks, and
whoever signs her up will have to buy the record company as well, reports
the Daily Express.

She was spotted six months ago while doing work experience at a Hampshire
recording studio used by Flying Sparks. The usual session singer was off and
Erin ended up doing the demo for the song which was supposed to be an album
track for Jones.

But when Flying Sparks boss Ian Brown heard Rocha, he signed her up himself
and produced the track as her debut single.

Erin said: "I'm overwhelmed by all the interest. I just love singing and
that's all it's ever been about for me. I'm just having a ball."

Ian said there has been an amazing amount of interest from record companies.
He said: "Erin is signed to Flying Sparks, so they'll have to buy the whole
label if they want her."

Erin's single will be released on December 15 and her album will follow in
the New Year.
