I suppose it's scarcely a novel sentiment -- though it might be an
uncommon one these days -- but though it's certainly nice for singers
to have a pleasant face and body to look at, it shouldn't be important
(much less de rigueur) in order to secure exposure.

I was just watching this (listening, really) and even if such charming
music were in vogue today, I doubt whether this fellow would get much
help from the marketing department. Not that he's ugly, just not a
fashion model.

Here he's actually handsome, but older with gray hair. Of course,
there's also Tony Bennett (thank goodness) but these exceptions seem
to be getting fewer and farther between as time goes on. (By the way,
the scary and tasteless computer graphics in the second video should
be ignored: that CGI intro is enough to frighten anyone away. But I
suppose one should be grateful to Jack Crow -- whomever he is -- for
at least making this sort of music available in this modern age.)
