That went fine until some independent indie labels went main stream and were bought
by BMG... I don't like indie anyway :)
If you had read my post more carefully, you had noticed I was talking about
conglomerates. That often include TV & radio networks, music labels, newspapers.
These have the power to make or break any artist. They even have the power to
convince men to go to war, see the Murdoch network, but let's not get into that now.
Small independent labels have no power to promote their artists on TV & radio. It's
only natural they won't be played, it's in the rules of the market, not promoting a
competing "product". So I can't listen to independent artists on the TV or radio. You
also won't let me download their music from the internet, because that would be
stealing, so I never hear of them. If I don't know them, I surely won't buy their
music, and because I will pass your offer to do without, I probably end up buying
some crap I've heard on the radio the other day.
In the end you have a few corporations controlling the audio-video market completely.
That must qualify as oligopoly, just like electricity & water, and unlike BMW & Ford.
