Not to mention the fact that blank media can be used to store
non-copyrighted data, and thus I resent being forced to subsidize "artists"
like Canine Dion just because *somebody else* might download her barking.
Also, lest we forget, Fair Use permits me to make a backup copy of
copyright material which I have purchased, so does the "clone-CD for the
cottage" mean the artist is compensated twice?
Of course, it's also been postulated that monies collected thus far haven't
been disbursed, and when (if?) they are, it will be to the Labels and not
the creator/performer of the work. I'm sure past financial shenanigans of
the RIAA-member corporations won't have any bearing on them being trusted
this time out (and who doesn't believe in The Great Pumpkin?)
This presumption that everyone enjoying peer-to-peer is a "pirate" is
preposterous - a true pirate profits from his plunder - and I most
certainly do not include myself amongst them.
