Madonna's hot new LP set to top the charts

LIFE STYLE EXTRA (UK) - Madonna looks set to reclaim her crown as queen of
pop with music fans snapping up her new album in their thousands today,
leaving Potty Pete Doherty in her wake.
Record shops reported a frenzied rush for the Madgester's latest CD
Confessions On A Dance Floor which was released today.
Meanwhile Doherty's band Babyshambles' debut album, which was also released
today, was selling well enough to enter the provisional Top 10, but not
enough to keep Madonna from the coveted top spot.
Music retailers HMV tipped Madonna's latest offering to become the year's
biggest seller.
HMV spokesman Gennaro Castaldo said that shelf stackers could not work fast
enough to meet the demand for Madonna's new LP on which she has returned to
her disco roots.
Mr Castaldo said: "Everyone wants a copy of this album not just for
themselves, but also as a great present idea.
"We have been rushed off our feet by fans old and new wanting to get their
hands on a copy. The numbers are staggering - it has flown in at number one
and could be there for quite a while.
"This will be the massive album for the year and Madge's appearance on
Parkinson on Saturday night meant that everyone was waiting to grab a copy
this morning. Over the years Madonna has established herself as the queen of
pop and she has a very broad fan base. You will hear people humming the
tunes from this album all over Christmas."
In a reverse of fortunes Babyshambles, whose front man Pete Doherty has
spent the last few months stumbling from one front page controversy to
another, experienced a relatively slow start to sales of their debut Down In
Albion.
Mr Castaldo said: "It is only early days, but Babyshambles have a smaller
fanbase who will have bought the album. It will be hard for it to compete
with this month's big sellers and I cannot see it coming in any higher than
number five in the album charts."
