Rick Astley to release new covers album
"Portrait" - The brand new album from Rick Astley is released this
October in the UK.
He was the man who defined a generation with his soulful voice and
boy next door good looks. Now multi-million selling boy wonder Rick
Astley is back with his incredible new album, "Portrait" - a
distinguished collection of classic songs sung to perfection by a
voice that is once heard, never forgotten.
"Portrait" will be released through SonyBMG on Monday October 17th
2005, and the inspiring new album marks the welcome return of one of
the UK's most instantly recognisable vocalists.
Featuring covers of some of the most beautiful songs ever
written, "Portrait" is set to remind everyone why Rick is still held
in such high regard today.
The album boasts a well thought out selection of beautiful, timeless
songs, including Don McLean's `Vincent', The Walker Brothers' "Make
It Easy On Yourself" and the inimitable theme from `Love
Story', `Where Do I Begin'.
They are songs Rick grew up listening to and loving, and has now
made his own. "I grew up listening to my parents favourites like
Frank Sinatra, Elvis, Andy Williams and Matt Monro. There songs
resonate with me many memories and as a musician these tracks are
timeless to me," Rick explains.
Rick became one of the biggest pop stars of the 80's after being
discovered by Pete Waterman. His first single, the enduring "Never
Gonna Give You Up", was a number one smash in the UK, and went on to
be a worldwide hit in 16 countries. He became a star overnight and
swiftly became popular with the young and old alike, achieving
record sales of over 19 million and scoring two number one hits in
the US.
Although he may have chosen to spend some time away from the public
eye, musically Rick has been working consistently since the 80's and
has spent the last decade honing his songwriting skills and
collaborating with a wide range of artists.
Having been approached by SonyBMG to make this album last year, he
has chosen now to step back into the spotlight with an amazing
collection that is sure to give the likes of Jamie Cullum and
Michael Buble a serious run for their money.
