Oh no, Jozef, I didn't mean to insult you at all. I certainly wasn't
talking about YOU when I wrote "what low dastard...?" You see, some of
us, including myself, have heard people pronounce "direction" with the
stress on the first syllable.
I also did not mean to insult you by saying that you're a non-native
speaker. That was not some cheap means of pointing out that I was
unhappy with your English...I despise people who say things like that.
You can verify this with a search of my posts: I'm an English language
teacher who lives and works in Greece and I have no interest in
insulting language learners, least of all ones who come to a group like
this one and ask intelligent, honest questions.
Anyway, thanks for starting an interesting discussion and please accept
my own apologies.
