Congratulations Game Developers, you've forced me to use illegal nocd patches for
my legally bought PC games :-(
Last week I've bought 'URU: Ages Beyond Myst' and 'Rush Hour' for SimCity 4. Both
legal games, but none of them worked on my PC. With some searching on internet I
know now they both use a new version of the Safedisc protection system which
seems to be incompatible with my cdrom drives (Nec DV-5800A dvd player and Lucky
Goldstar 8120B cdrw drive). My OS is Windows XP Home Edition (legal, no copy).
All I get after a succesful install is an error screen saying something like
"please insert the correct disc and try again".
What I tried so far:
1. disable all virtual drives (there was one)
2. downloaded and installed a Microsoft Safedisc patch (although not necessary
for me)
3. downloaded and installed a Macrovision update for Safedisc
4. flashed both drives with latest available firmware (and tried other firmwares)
5. updated both games with latest available patches
None of this helped. My computer configuration is ok, non-Safedisc 3 games work
without any problems. All that's left for me to do is to buy another cdrom drive
or use the available nocd patches. Or is there something else I could try?
Richard.
