Enemies don't tend to be thick in TES games, they're spread out. At
early levels they will be mostly critters like mud crabs and niff
hounds. They're there, they just aren't going to be obvious or
swarming yuo. This isn't Diablo 2 for example by a LONG shot.

Grab the manual for this one. Been a LONG time since I played Morrowind
(on Oblivion right now) so I can't tell you the exact key. However hit
"i" to go into your inventory. You can click on a weapon in your
inventory to choose it for use. You're "paper doll" will be shown
holding the weapon if its chosen.
Then to use it you just unsheath (don't remember the hot key for this,
maybe f? Manual will say). That puts it in your hand. Now you swing
with the mouse.

You can buy them, take them off fallen opponents (humonoid only) find
them in treasure chests, etc. Early on your weapon will probably be a
rusty sword/axe or bow. You should have started with a small amount of
money, I'd suggest buying a weapon from the merchant in Seyda Neen
(town you started in)

Space bar when close to them. You should then get a list of topics you
can click on to "talk" to them. If you aren't close enough you'll just
get their ambient greeting, you aren't in a conversation. Get closer,
make sure you are looking right at them and hit space bar again.

Misisons are often NOT obvious. Once you figure out conversations
you'll start getting people giving you clues and jobs.
