EA Worker Files Overtime Lawsuit
An Electronic Arts engineer filed a lawsuit against his employer on
Monday, claiming the game publisher should pay for his overtime
duties.
According to the story at MercuryNews.com (free registration
required), the suit was filed in state Superior Court in San Mateo,
Calif. by Leander Hasty, who has worked at EA since July 2003. While
some programmers are not eligible for overtime work under California
law, the lawsuit contends that Hasty's work at EA does not come under
that particular law. The publisher has not yet officially commented on
the lawsuit. Work conditions at the publisher have come under scrutiny
ever since an anonymous web blog posted in 2004 by a wife of an EA
team member claimed the publisher was overworking its members. A
similar suit was filed by another EA employee in July 2004 and an
overtime lawsuit was also filed by a worker for Vivendi Universal
Games in 2004.
