Dear Friends (Again!),
I've posted a version of the Little Drummer Boy, done by the talented, late American composer and musician, Henry Mancini. I suppose it was probably recorded in the mid to late '80s.
As with other Christmas songs, there have been perhaps a dozen versions of this particular song ... some done in such a grave manner as to resemble a funeral dirge. This one, however, is a diamond, and stands as my very favourite Christmas tune bar none. Sung by female voices, it holds none of the gravity of the holiday, and all of the childlike fun. It is light, lilting, and sung in the innocent and hopeful manner of small boys who, although perhaps bewildered by it all, tell the story with charming innocence and honesty.
It never fails to bring tears to my eyes. I hope you enjoy it.
Wishing You the Best of a Boyhood Christmas,
V
