Often when a set of split files is posted, any given news server, for
whatever reason, may not receive them all, or receive a corrupted
version, which could make recombining the file impossible. Posters
post Par files, short for parsimony, as insurance. If a file is
missing or corrupted, the par files can be used to reconstruct the
damaged or missing files, and thereby restore the entire product.
