Hi Ulysses,
Your contribution makes me wonder how many boys have died from lack of
assistance? There is no way I could put my own well being ahead of
that of a child in need. Boy or girl.
Concerning the atrocity that happened to my friend Grant, I am
disappointed and angry. I would have immediately turned on the mother
and asked her how in good conscience she could make such an
accusation. What did she see me do to her son that would cause her to
make such an obviously unfounded claim.? I would ask her what would
happen if everyone treated first responders the way she treated Grant?
I saved the life of a mother just like her who had been thrown through
the windshield of the truck she'd been riding in. I blew breath back
into her body. She survived because of the first aid I gave her. I
lifted a pick up truck cab off of her son who was pinned between the
highway pavement and the truck so someone could pull him free. I found
the broken body of her husband who lay in a culvert barely breathing.
I treated him until a paramedic relieved me. And then I went to her
hysterical children and reported that their parents were alive and
would make it. Which they did. I would have turned the tables on her
and asked her how DARE she make such as vicious accusation? I would
have pointed my finger at each one of the mob and shamed them into
silence. Maybe her son only had a scraped hand, but no one knew that
until I offered him first aid? What if his arm was broken, could she
deal with that? What if he had sliced open a vein, could she deal with
that? What if after being treated the way she treated Grant, he didn't
help the next accident victim? What if he went on his way, stung by
her hysterical rebuke? What if that little boy died because Grant
didn't act? What if I had continued driving on that day? The little
boy pulled from under a truck that day would have been an orphan. Is
that the America she really wants? She would have been shamed, along
with her hysterical neighbors and her son would be looking up at her
wondering how the hell his mother could be so wrong about something.
