My mother once confessed to me regarding the Great Depression,
certainly a terrible time for so many here as well as in America and
around the world, that as a child she did not remember wanting for
anything whatsoever, and recalls that time as one of love, affection
and happiness. I believe adults may be responsible for making "good
old days" bad.
Certainly, there were as a matter of course bad things, including the
common use of children in hard labour. Hines' stark photographs
helped change that forever.
