I should like to make a point here I believe relevant to the
discussion.
I had seen reference to Duncan's demise long before 2006, indeed long
before I had discovered the newsgroup phenomena. Sorry to admit that
I do not recall the web site where I saw this "news" posted, but I
clearly recall that it was a pictorial site featuring Duncan
exclusively in his swimming suit, and a gif depicting a lone, burning
candle dedicated to his "memory." Conservatively, I would guess I
first saw the web site in 2000.
This, I believe, predates the rumours of him being killed in the
Chenya debacle--a popular story that later surfaced. Frankly, I do
not believe much of the more sensational "news" I read in the
newsgroups. Such can seldom be confirmed or refuted. I have also
come to believe that these types of stories are posted to support a
particular position [the type of which we've recently seen regarding
"Child Murderers." I shall leave it to you kind souls to ferret out
the supporting agenda] and am convinced it is all bollocks.
Oh! Excuse the language, please!
Boys seen as the object of Boylover affection are often portrayed as
having been murdered, or having committed suicide, or suffering some
such terrible fate. The purpose for these accounts is, of course,
completely transparent. Speaking from my own experience, I know of
several boys, having been the object of such affections, who have not
suffered such and now live fulfilling lives--so much as to stay in
contact with their older paramours. Certainly those "normal" members
of society deny any such possibility, so convinced they are of their
own beliefs, and would brand me a liar for even uttering the thought
that a child might have loved a man and had nevertheless grown up
content, self confident and safe. Hence, the morbid tales continue to
bubble up, as it were.
And so be it. After all, this is Usenet, the realm of the elusive
truth.
My regards.
