( Chuckle) you don't know very much at all do you, If you want someone
to leave your house, you ask them to go, if they don't go you call the
police or throw them out bodily..
If you leave a broomstick outside of your door, its to tell callers that
your not in. If the broom is missing you are in, and presumably using
the broom.
Its simply the same thing as putting a closed or open sign in a shop
window, their is nothing magical about it, and it was not only used by
witches, it was used by anyone who wanted to let callers know if they
were in or out, and if they were receiving callers.
