There was a study a while back that indicated moderate coffee
consumption significantly reduced colon cancer rates. If you buy into
the idea (and it might not be a bad one) that many colon cancers stem
from ingested toxins, the stimulant of coffee speeding material through
the large intestine (and thus reducing the time it is exposed to said
toxins) it makes a bit of sense. I don't have a ref handy, but you
should be able to Google it.
