One site, almost certainly the largest by a good margin, is www.bride.ru .
Here, it is free to place an ad, and if someone responds to your ad, they
get your e-mail address, and write to you.
It is entirely up to the individual to decide whether the other side is
sincere or not, and that applies to both the ad giver and the ad responder.
There are also sites where men who want to marry place the ads.
Bride.ru makes its money on click-through advertising and the compilation of
mailing lists.
You could find that by answering an ad, you come across an unscrupulous
person, or a person who misrepresents themselves.
That is why there are other agencies who play a more active role, and they
also of course charge for that, as they charge for addresses, translation
services, etc etc. You could get ripped off, or you could end up a lovely
happy couple.
www.ejeem.com shows an example of a fine family. The lady you see there is
Zhanna, from Russia, now Jane Dutton, and two of those four kids are hers,
two are Jim's from his first marriage. They are are success story for this
sort of thing. For every story of fraud you hear about, there are dozens of
families like the Duttons that don't hit the headlines.
