I did try something like this in Synthetica, where things which can be
arranged in groups of varying size, like village, small town, large town,
city, metropolis, were single syllable nouns, with a common -arg ending
(where 'a' is any vowel, and 'rg' is any pronounceable consonant cluster.)
and a predictable cascade of first letter consonants, which related back to
a diagonal line on the sound table. Eg p,th, g, zx, l. I tried to make at
least one part of the cascade resemble a word that could be cognate with
either Germanic or Slavic and both if possible.
But the system was not yet finished, and one day I have to go back and work
on it more. It is not like Fucatokk www.jbc.nildram.co.uk/fucatokk.htm which
I threw out in about a week because it rides on the back of a natural
language to a much greater extent.
