~A HUGE pet peave of mine this is~~
Children do not get the correct amount of sleep they need now a days~ They
should be getting 8-10 hrs. of sleep and sometimes more depending on the
child to funtion in school and apprehend everything they learn.
Studies have been done to prove this theory.
Let me find a link for you, I am sure you have had your share as a former
teacher with kids falling alseep in class or not being able to get what you
might have been saying.
:(( Sad thing it is.
Part of what the study says...
So how much sleep do kids need? Recommended amounts range from about 10 to
11 hours a night for young elementary students to 8.5 hours for teens.
Fallone insists that his own second-grader gets 10 hours a night, even when
it meant dropping soccer the season that practice didn't start until 7:30 --
too late for her to fit in dinner and time to wind down before she needed to
be snoozing.
"It's tough," he acknowledged. But "parents must believe in the importance
of sleep."
The study was funded by the National Institutes of Health.
More of this link and what it says can be read here:

Many more links about this subject are found in the google search, I found
that very interesting, I think we live way to hectic of a life trying to fit
the kids in every sport or activity they can squeeze in to make their family
look like a well rounded family when they are really not, just sleep
deprived at the most, not to mention the fast foods they eat in the car on
the way to these activities~Sad what society pushes on the families and kids
these days :(
Time to slow down and get back to a simpler way of life IMO only. Great to
keep the kids busy but at the expense of their health ,I feel its just not
worth it to keep up with the 'Jones"
Again just my opinion :o)
