Phil Silvers was a funny guy (see "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World") but in
Bilko played a character I think a lot of Americans didn't like especially.
The character's negative side probably didn't come across in UK as
negatively. It was a funny show that never made it to ''superstar' status
although it was very popular.
Americans don't like 'pompous ass' or smart-ass characters probably because
so many are that way themselves.
