Solomon's Private File #126
These stories about Stephen and Solomon take place starting in
1950's. Stephen wrote about his life in letters to a penpal, and then
in a secure blog, in case he lost his memory again, in the master
computer in his school for gifted students, which he started attending
in 2016 in a new incarnation, until his death. Now his son Solomon is
attending the same school, and is writing in his own secure blog for
his future incarnations.
All characters are fictitious, even if some of them might have names
that belong to some actual people, or act like people we know.
Solomon is 19 in this story, in the Summer of 2045.
Solomon's Private File #126 "Tornado Suit"
START Page
It finally happened. Somebody sued me for the damage to his house in
a tornado. At the preliminary hearing, Hawk asked me, as my lawyer,
"Did you manage in any way the tornado that the plaintiff believes was
in the area of his home, so as to damage it?" I said, "I did not." He
said, "Have you ever managed or interfered with a tornado?" I said, "I
have not." He said, "Why haven't you?" I said "For the very reason we
are here; false liability. If I did it once, even in a very limited
way, it would be assumed by greedy people and rapacious er, legal
advisors that I can and should do more. Then the legal process would
eventually necessitate that I stop ALL help of ANY kind in America.
That includes the drug interdiction, detection and prevention of
terrorist attacks, and assistance with environmental disasters. It's
not what I want, but that seems to be what some people DO want. Knowing
this, I wonder what their fellow Americans will think of those who want
to cause this." Dead silence in the courtroom, and then a loud buzz of
comments.
After a while, the judge succeeded in causing some reduction in the
noise. He asked the opposing lawyer, "Do you have any evidence,
scientific, or through witnesses, that can contradict the defendant's
testimony?" He said, "Not exactly. Just that some scientists think it's
being done." The judge said, "But no proof of even that?" He said,
"Correct, your honor." Judge said, "This case is dismissed. All Court
costs and legal fees of both parties are the responsibility of the
plaintiff." The man said, "You can't do this! I know my rights! He's
lying! I know he could have saved my house!" Judge said to the lawyer,
"Please advise your client about the criminal nature of his recent
utterances." He did, but the man was too angry to listen. Then he fired
his lawyer, who looked very relieved at that. I said to the judge, "May
I speak to the plaintiff?" He said, trying to keep his face from
showing how he felt, "Please."
I said, "Sir, there are some things you should consider about this
issue. I am not all seeing. Yes, I can see anything I want to, but I
have to know a reason exists for that to happen at a specific place.
I'm not watching tornados. I have other more important things to occupy
my attention. I MUST prioritize. If I could save your house, and did,
that would mean that, due to the fact that there are limits to
everything, including what I can do, that another person's house would
be destroyed that I could have saved, which could also include the
death of his family. Is that what you are asking for?" He opened his
mouth, but nothing came out. I said, "Are you requiring me to value
property over the lives of other people? Are you really that selfish? I
don't think you are. I think you are just angry over your loss. I
didn't cause that, but you have nobody else to vent your anger on.
Unfortunately, this has caused you to appear to be to the public, a
person of very negative qualities. With your permission, I will offer
some advice. Try to channel the energy of that anger into something
more constructive, such as supporting your family, and rebuilding your
home and life. Ask and encourage your community to assist you, by
assisting others in your community who have also suffered loss. Work
together. Build a better community with care, respect, and love, and
you will have no anger, but be filled with love." I had my Ki flowing
fully, and he was in a daze by the time I was finished. A lot of people
were, and were feeling really strange.
Hawk said to me, "Sol, your aura is showing." I said, "Oops! Sorry."
I renewed the block. I said, "It's getting harder to block people's
seeing it." He said, "Then why try?" I said, "I don't want everybody
trying to plug their phones into me to charge them." Strange laughter.
Eventually, we were all allowed to leave. But of course it didn't end
there. There had been reporters there, and one artist. There were
recordings. That whole situation was played out in the media over and
over. I was asked to comment. I didn't, except to say, "My aura being
visible to all when I don't block it, has no unusual significance to it
except that it's become more noticeable. It does NOT forecast the end
of my life, or anything else but increased embarrassment." There was
some comment that somebody was still managing tornados, and if it
wasn't me, it was Hawk or Rose, or a student. Nobody decided to force
us to tell about that. There were more tornadoes, hurricanes,
wildfires, and earthquakes. We helped when and where we could. They
were ordinary things to us, with standard responses, and so not
significant to write here about.
A big Los Vegas casino was robbed. Then another. They asked for my
help, publicly. I said in a statement, "I do NOT approve of gambling. I
REALLY do not approve of establishments that encourage it. To me, they
are almost as bad as drug pushers, and I deplore their efforts to
entice people to ruin their lives, and the lives of their families. If
casinos didn't exist, they wouldn't be robbed, therefore their current
problem is solved." I said to my family, "In times like this, I REALLY
miss Chad. Can anybody not imagine his face splitting grin?" Their
grins said no. Media loved it. So did many on the religious side.
Then a customer was seriously injured in one of the robberies. I
ported to LVPD and said to the Sherif, "Here's the info on the
robberies and robbers. One was a little psionic. WAS. They made a
mistake. I wouldn't have bothered with this, but they injured a
civilian. If that casino doesn't set up that entire family for life,
they are going to really regret it." He said, "Thank you Solomon. Your
views on this have some sympathy here. I'll see they get the message."
I nodded and ported home. That case was rough. Part of their motivation
was justice, because two of them had parents lose all their money
gambling, and lost their homes. I made sure CNN knew about that. They
reported it well.
There was a group meeting. They asked if they could make my Van
upgrade public in the GC and on Earth. I said, "You know it can't be
shown here. The Van don't wear clothes. The old sexless ones, and the
new very er, sexed ones. And me hugging naked people? The males were
not immune to my sexuality." Mom said, "That we can show from the waist
up." Hawk said, "Up is right." Pokes. I said, "I don't see a need to
show it anywhere at this time. An external need." Mom sighed and said,
"Exposed. Yes, it was our love and pride for you, a the base of it."
Percy had a reaction. We looked at him. He said, "Solomon! You're
holding back. There is something missing in the things you gave us
recently. Something in quantum theory, regarding dark energy. It just
struck me." I said, "Check for damage?" Pokes. I said, "That's alright.
It's nothing." More pokes. I said, "Hey, that's what it's called, the
energy of nothing." More pokes. I said, "Seriously, how can I hold back
nothing? It's what holds matter together, and apart. It's the energy we
use and draw from the 4th, where it's er, looser, due to the extra
linear dimension." Daren said, "Is any of it available to us in this
dimension?" I said, "A tiny bit of it leaks out of nooks and crannies
in the atomic structures of things, and collects in space strain lines
and nodes caused by dark matter. Adepts can see and use it then." They
were all surprised. I said, "Life, with its associated spirit, attracts
some of it, and actually depends on it to live." There were a bunch of
wows expressed. I was talking about the energy in ley lines and nodes,
and in chakras.
Percy said, "Math?" I said, "Nobody else I know of is able to
understand it." George said, "Will there be somebody?" I said, "There
will be somebody a little more intelligent than I am now, before I die,
but I don't know anything more that will help answer that question.
Maybe different abilities and talents." Daren said, "One of us?" I
said, "Depends on how you define 'us'. It's complicated. That's all for
now." They nodded acceptance of that cutoff.
Mom said, "News of your mission has reached the GC." We all grinned.
She said, "Right. Comments all over the map, the most foolish the
loudest. They want to 'invite' you to testify. GC Ambassador from
Posintan practically blasted their auditory membranes with what
happened with your father. Other worlds added to that, after one
mentioned the possibility of the cessation of the love and healing
broadcasts." I said, "I can almost smell the incontinence over that."
Chuckles. I said, "I should go thank him." Mom nodded.
With an appointment, I ported to near the office of the Posintan
Ambassador to the GC, unobserved. I was warmly greeted in the outer
office, and the Ambassador came out to greet me, and we went to his
office and sat. After polite things, I said, "Rose told me about what
you did, after the news about what I did on your world came here." He
grinned and said, "Not much real competition here. It was a relief and
a pleasure to have something to beat the most stupid of the people
here, over the head until it retracted." I said with a smile, "I am
happy to have afforded that opportunity. I don't know how you can
continue to exist among all the useless loudmouths here." He said, "I
have the same thoughts, often. Still, here I am."
He said, "I have to tell you that what most impressed my people was
something you said to the leader of the big people. It showed that you
do not favor us in your position, but are fair even in that, when you
clearly love and favor us." I said, "So your people are most impressed
by my criticism of them? STRANGE people you are!" He laughed. He said,
"I know you don't mean that as an insult. But it's true that some
people, most, in fact, think we are strange for how we arrange our
society. But not you." I said, "We think it's strange for an entire
world to use any one social system so completely, yes, but not the
specific concept you use. To us, that is perfectly natural, because we
live it even more than you do." He nodded and said, "You are the best
now in the galaxy. Will there be one greater?" I said, "My people want
to know that, too. We are not able to understand intelligence greater
than our own. Yes, there will be one beyond who I am now, but only by a
little, and will be different in talents and abilities, and also in
interests. I'm not able to see beyond that." He said, "Thank you. Would
you tell me who is second to you in intelligence?" I said, "I'm not
sure I can describe that person to you well. She is mostly a plant, the
last of her species. 90,000 years old. I'm reestablishing her people,
which will take some time." He said, "How unusual!" I said, "I have to
agree. That's why I was asked to investigate her, when she wouldn't
allow communication with my group. She was waiting for somebody she
could consider her equal. She and I had a very productive session,
which, during it, she discovered she was mistaken about me." He grinned
and said, "You were more advanced." I said, "Er, yes." He laughed.
He said, "We have discovered more about the Van from their former
offices. We have never thanked you and your group enough for what you
did for the galaxy in removing them from us." I said, "For them,
strange isn't strong enough." He said, "I have to agree." I said, "You
are aware that my people are monitored?" He said, "I am." I said, "At
the present, very noisy monitors! They want me to tell you something."
He said, "If I don't look interested enough to you, please understand I
am trying my best at that." I chuckled and said in admiration, "I have
never heard such a condition expressed so well, in all my hundreds of
lives. Well done!" He was very pleased, and embarrassed. My grin at
that didn't help him at all.
I said, "I recently visited the Van world. I'll project what
happened, with translations. This is for YOU only, until we want to
make it public." He said, "I agree to that. Please proceed." I said,
"Well expressed eagerness." He chuckled. I showed him what happened. He
was stupefied with amazement and awe. When he recovered, I said first,
"There aren't enough wows for that, I know, so don't even try." He had
to laugh. He said, "That was well said." I bowed my thanks. I said, "If
compliments were credits, between us, we could almost start a bank." He
laughed. He said, "The males in your hugs. Are such sexual reactions
common?" I said, "Yes, and with my father's hugs, also. He had the
strongest love in the galaxy in his time. Sexuality is most often a
part of that. Females have their own physical responses, but not as er,
obvious. Orgasms with both genders have happened in our hugs.
Interesting, the reactions to that the first time." He laughed. He
said, "And the second?" I said, "There usually isn't one. With close
friends, it is either ignored, or, industriously encouraged." He
laughed again, and said, "That was WELL said!" I said, "My people agree
with you. One, my Uncle Hawk, who is well known for his susceptibility
to humor, may recover from that in time. Oh, now make that a longer
time." He laughed. I said, "Not even close." More laughter.
He said, "I didn't expect this, your humor." I said, "Good." He
grinned. I said, "You are aware that those in my group feel the
emotions of others?" He said, "I am, and I am aware of my feelings that
have caused you to say that. Does it disturb you?" I said, "Not at all.
When you are ready, er, I needn't have said that." He laughed. I said,
"My species mostly has a nudity taboo. My group definitely does NOT.
Your will?" Our clothes flew off. We hugged with love with such an
intensity, we squirted in 41 seconds. I said, "Now you can say it." He
said, "Wow!" I said, "True. I'll clean us up." He said when I did that,
"That's amazing!" I said, "You already knew we can teleport. That is
just a part of that ability, for those of us of sufficient
advancement." He said, "Oh, you are not all the same. Er, please ignore
that stupid comment." I said, "Done." We dressed. I had more to put on
than he did. I said, "I expect we will meet again, and I think we both
wish that to not be in public." We grinned at each other. I bowed, and
said, "Farewell." I ported home.
They had a lot of wows to express, too. Mom said, "First time I know
of, that anybody not an Adept asked for that on a first hug." I said,
"Not that unusual. He was the first to know it could happen, after
Brian. But I agree the interest was there." Hawk said, "How do you
think they will act toward you when you go to Posintan the next time?"
I said, "Who says there WILL be a next time? I don't want to be
worshipped." Elise said, "I wouldn't mind a little of that." We all
poked her, while she laughed.
