Solomon's Private File #65
These stories about Stephen and Solomon take place starting in
1950's. Stephen wrote about his life in letters to a penpal, and then
in a secure blog, in case he lost his memory again, in the master
computer in his school for gifted students, which he started attending
in 2016 in a new incarnation, until his death. Now his son Solomon is
attending the same school, and is writing in his own secure blog for
his future incarnations.
All characters are fictitious, even if some of them might have names
that belong to some actual people, or act like people we know.
Solomon is 15 in this story, in the Fall of 2041.

I was mobbed at school for what I did with the announcement. A whole
lot of hugs and kisses. Then we had a meeting. Pete said, "How you did
that was amazing, and you included some very important basic human
issues in it that went all over the world." I said, "Sure. Why waste
media coverage for just one thing?" Ivanna said, "Now you might be
asked to do more of this." I groaned, and they laughed. I said, "Wow!
Somebody just shot at the White House with a rifle on full auto. Nobody
hurt. He's trying to reload, but keeps dropping the clip, with my help.
Please excuse me while I go talk at him." I ported to in front of him,
and he almost jumped out of his clothes. I said, "Hello. Er, what are
you doing?" He just stared at me. I said, "You were pretty loud with
your rifle. Try making some noise with your mouth." He yelled, "They're
ruining the country!" I said, "True. They've been doing that for two
hundred years. We're still here, though. Couldn't be too bad, if you're
still allowed to have a rifle, right?" He said nodded. I said, "And you
can still say what you want, no matter how stupid it is, just like the
politicians." He nodded again. I said with a smile, "And, by the looks
of you, you sure aren't starving." He had to chuckle.
The police were arriving. I said to them, "Hold! The situation is
under control. I am Solomon, and I'm having a discussion with this
person." They stopped. I said to the man, "Did you really think you
could achieve anything useful by shooting at that very well protected
building?" He said, "But I was so angry." I said, "Enough to do this
foolish thing, and completely ruin your life?" He said, "I know that
you mean. Stupid of me." I said, "A little. More, it was selfish of
you. You thought your anger was more important than the danger to other
people you would cause by acting on that anger." He said, "Oh. Oh!
You're pretty smart." I grinned and said, "You must be pretty smart
yourself, to see that." He grinned back. I said, "You know you will
have to face the consequences for this." He said, "I know." I said,
"Show all your fellow Americans that you can take it like a responsible
real man should?" He stood tall and said, "I will!" He gave me the
rifle and the pistol. I gave them to one of the officers, saying to
them, "Please treat him as a fully cooperative suspect." They nodded to
me, and took him into custody, but not roughly. As they were taking him
away, I said to him, "There are lessons in all we experience. Don't let
them be wasted." He said, "Thank you. I mean that!" I nodded.
I ported back to the meeting. Mom said, "Only you could get a shooter
to thank you for having him arrested!" I said, "It wasn't quite like
that. If you want to give what happened to the media, go ahead, but
with the addition that I recommend a sentence of community service. Er,
and some anger management training." She said, "Will do." I said, "In a
little while, I'm going to need all our Double and S Kid Senior Adepts
that are fully trained in the new PK, for group practice." Ichi said,
"Still won't tell us what you're planning?" I said, "I might, if I knew
what that was. Depends on what we discover we can do. We ARE going to
take a psimaster, one way or another. We need his memories." They
nodded agreement.
Hawk said to me, "Check me for legal." I did, and said, "You've got
it. And how did you know I could do that?" He grinned really wide, and
said, "I didn't." Mom asked him, "What did he do?" He said, "I don't
know. I didn't feel a thing." They all looked at me. I said musically,
"You're staring at me." Chuckles. I looked at George, and he indicated
yes. I pushed it at him, and he nodded. The others knew, and knew it
was an S Kid thing, and didn't ask. I said to Hawk, "Alright if I
inform Yale of your intentions?" He said, "Yes." I said, "Done.
Reaction surprised and pleased. They'll start whenever you want. Hmm,
actually before that." Grins.
The media liked what I did with the shooter, and so did the public.
It was much worse in our offices at the Bureau. They had liked the
buildup to the Middle East Announcement, and really liked that
announcement. Then I was called to the Director's office. I left very
dramatically dragging my feet, to their laughter. A team from CIA were
there, not looking very happy. I said, "I could come back when your
guests are feeling better?" The Director grinned, and said, "That could
take a while. Please stay." I said, "Well, alright. If they don't bite.
I don't know if they've had all their shots." He and one of the agents
chuckled. I sat. Silence. The Director was obviously not going to help
them, which they noticed. The still angry agent said, "You didn't warn
us about this new alliance." I said, "I knew that. I didn't warn
anybody, just like they asked." Silence. He said, "You should have.
You're an American!"
The Director was expecting something bad from me, and he knew I knew
that. I said to the agent, "So I should have gone against my word? How
much would YOU have trusted me after that, knowing I could and would do
that? And they would have found out, and stopped trusting me, and in
that whole process they are in now, which could have resulted in armed
conflict, interfering with YOUR goals. And the whole world would know
that I failed, and that I couldn't be trusted. Is that loss of trust,
the full loss of my credibility, good for America and the world? I'm an
American. That's true. Because of that, I'm beginning to have my doubts
about YOUR loyalty, and serious doubts about your intelligence. Tell
me, is what I said would happen, untrue? TELL ME!" That last was in
command voice, so he had to answer. He said, "It's true!" I said, "And
is that what you wanted?" He said, "No." I said, "Then WHAT are you
doing here?" He said, "I've made a mistake. I think I should be going
now." He got up, and so did the other agent, who have me the thumbs up
sign that the angry agent didn't see.
I said to the Director, "I gave his boss that, and a recommendation
that he see one of their shrinks." He said, "I'm sorry, but they didn't
tell me why they wanted to see you." I said, "Could have sent them a
picture." He smiled, and said, "Or that shooter at the White House." I
said, "Both would be upset to know that I don't see much difference
between them in how they acted. Anger clouds judgement. Obviously!" He
said, "We've had problems like this with them before." I said, "Right.
Always will. Nature of the job. Spying compromises ethics, and promotes
feelings of power and entitlement. Some can't compartmentalize that,
and then it invades the rest of their being, including and causing more
conflicts, and some paranoia. Job frustration adds to that mix. More,
knowing there can never be a real conclusion to what they do. We could
have an office there. We don't. Seriously bad vibes. What they do is
important, but I wouldn't recommend a kind person work there." He
nodded, and said, "Thanks for the analysis."
I said to my new team in an open area on Allguard, "We have a job to
do. There is a group of aliens who are full telepaths, and are VERY
good with PK. So good, we can't get close to them without using the
4th, which we really don't want them to know more about. But if we can
get close in another way, we can still use the 4th to supply us with
unlimited energy. Being that the connection is inside us, and our
spying on us again. I'm saying this to them. You can watch now. But you
can't watch us in action there. If I detect any 4th viewpoints then,
which could alert them and expose us, maybe getting us killed, I have
to go with priorities. I will stop those viewpoints as fast as they
show up, any way I can, even if it hurts you. In action, our lives and
mission come first. Your lives come last. Got it?" Pete said in the
air, "Right. Got it. Go for it!" They looked at me in awe. Daren said,
"You would really do that?" I said, "For the sake of the galaxy, and
for all in it, yes. Then when it's all over, if I did that, I would
die. Let's try to make that, if it happens, worth it. So, here and now,
I want us to practice attacking each other with normal power PK, but
with our PK shields powered from a 4th internal power tap." We did
that, and it went well. Then I said, "Now two against one." That went
well, too. I said, "Now all against me. Do your best with normal power.
When I say more, use the 4th to add power to the attack. They are
stronger with PK than we are, and they can coordinate better. I want to
know what my limit is in this, before they do. Stop when I fall down.
Best obvious signal I can do." They did that. It was tough on all of
us. I fell down to end it.
I said, "Good start. I need to be able to resist a little more. Info
on the foe. Ready for push?" I gave it to them. There were some wows.
Then Galya said, "We HAVE to stop them!" I said, "Daughter of Ivanna
WOULD be a fierce fighter." She was embarrassed, while they grinned
approval at her. Ivanna said in my mind, with a lot of love, "Thanks."
I said, "Now something new. Throw rocks at me with 4th powered PK. Not
too hard at first. These boulders." They did, with medium power at
first, then with more power. In the beginning I ignored them behind my
PK shield. Then I blocked them at a distance. Then I took them away
from their control. Then I called a halt. Galya said, "I see a pattern
here. We are preparing YOU." I said, "Yes. I'll be the front man. But
you guys will be doing most of the prep work as a team. We need to make
a monster out of PK, like it's a real living thing. Oh, our spies just
got their attention up. They should have known that my best weapon
isn't physical, it's mental. Psychology!" We produced a lot of grins.
I said, "Daren. Make a VERY big salamander, fed with a 4th point
inside it." He did. I said, "George, verify my observation. I can sense
with PK his connection to the salamander." He said, "I can, too." I
said, "Suggestions for how we can do it without that trace?" Daren
said, "I understand why you don't want to be the one to say it. You
need one of us to be inside it. This, with any shape we want, is your
monster. A 4th shield would block PK." I said, "Multiple Adepts,
multi-phasing. Levitation inside. Try this setting." Four of them rose
in the air, and a big ball of energy formed around them. Then they were
back on the ground. I said, "I didn't know if that would work. It does!
Our mission is going to be a success!" Galya said, "And what exactly is
that success?" I said, "Er, you WOULD ask that." I got poked. I said,
"First success is we do what we need to, in a way they can't learn
anything new from, that doesn't kill us. Second is we capture one of
their psimasters in a way they will KNOW we didn't do it. We need their
memories to plan the second part of the mission, and that is to stop
them. Let's practice the first part of the mission with the monster, in
actual combat. Three outside, and the rest inside. Use this shape and
coloring for the monster." They grinned, and formed up and made the
monster. I yelled out, "Bigger!" Then I said it again. I said, "Fine.
Now we attack. See of you can bat the rocks aside." It was
uncoordinated for a while. Then we all improved. I said, "That's enough
for today." We were all on the ground and unharmed. I said, "Tomorrow
we change around and practice more realistic movement." Galya said,
"You plan to terrorize them with the monster. I see that, but how is
that going to help us capture one of them?" I said, "A hungry monster!"
Their mouths dropped open in surprise. Pete yelled in the air, "They
will NEVER look for that one, and NEVER suspect he was kidnapped. Wow!"
We practiced a lot more, doing all we could think of that could be
useful for the mission, including how to recognize a psimaster from
inside of the monster. It was a little difficult to set the PK skin to
allow some light through. We had to have an Adept in the head, looking
out of the mouth. That was a good thing anyway, for the capture, and it
also provided a live aura for the psimasters to sense if they could,
behind all that PK interference. Those in the body of the monster would
be shielded. One evening, I said to Daren in shielded contact, "This is
shielded. Nobody not an S Kid can even know it's happening." He said
"Wow! I see how it works now. Thanks. Want me to teach it to the
others?" I said, "As you see fit, but it should be a secret among S
Kids as long as we can keep it. Dad taught me it." He said, "Right. Got
it." I said, "For the mission, I'm not going to depend on others'
voluntary not looking. I want one of us in far sun orbit with a 4th
shield set to block the whole solar system from viewports from
outside." He said, "But won't that block our use of the 4th in our
mission?" I said, "That's what I want to test. And if it will make a
difference if the originator of the block is inside the shield or out.
He could leave an opening for our power pull if necessary. Our possible
watchers probably wouldn't go looking for it, and if they suspected and
tried, we would probably be finished with the mission before they found
it and figured out a way in through it." He said, "Good you thought of
this. I agree." I said, "Something else. We can do all that in
psionically shielded rooms, so the adults can't find out and find us."
He said, "But communication?" I grinned and said, "See if you can
figure it out." He said, "If we know where who we want to communicate
with is, we can do it through 4th viewpoints. If we know where the
shield opening is." I said with love, "S Kid at work!" He was really
not unhappy about that.
I said, "Something else. When we are monitored, we usually can't hide
what we are thinking if they can contact us. S Kids can, and so they
won't know. Want it?" He poked me. We grinned. I entered his mind and
showed him directly, how to separate conscious thought into parts, one
being in an invisible to non S Kid partition. I said, "Hides it even
from your stone, too. Dad did it, but I had already figured it out
before he was going to teach me." He said, "Really wow! So it's not
just power and telepathy we have. Finer skill, too." I said, "Yes. You
know we would not have been allowed to have these things if wasn't
important. Was it really coincidence I brought PK to us like I did, and
now we fight PK Adepts that we couldn't have before? I don't think so."
He said, "More wows. Really. I also see we should keep these things
from the non S Kid Adepts. They might fear us like the regular people
do." I said, "Yes. That means we have to monitor ourselves, too, so WE
don't fear ourselves." He said, "Your father was more great than I
realized, being the only one of us who couldn't be completely
monitored. What a responsibility!" We hugged with love. We did some
secret testing, and we did work out a way to have the security shield
and still be able to use the 4th the way we wanted it, but one of us
wouldn't be doing it. I programmed a physical controller for it, and
ported it to one of the outer planets' rocky moons. We celebrated the
usual way. Now that most of us can do the love stroking and the link,
that was SOME great way!
