Solomon's Private File #2
These stories about Stephen and Solomon take place starting in
1950's. Stephen wrote about his life in letters to a penpal, and then
in a secure blog, in case he lost his memory again, in the master
computer in his school for gifted students, which he started attending
in 2016 in a new incarnation, until his death. Now his son Solomon is
attending the same school, and is writing in his own secure blog for
his future incarnations.
All characters are fictitious, even if some of them might have names
that belong to some actual people, or act like people we know.
Solomon is 10 in this story, in the Fall of 2036.

My school has a name. It's the Horizon Institute. It teaches
everything. I know that's a lot, but it's true. We learn a lot of
regular things like academics, but we learn physical things, too, like
martial arts and sports. I learned in Orientation that to be our best,
we have to improve all of the person, and not just the parts we think
we want to. There is something extra, too. If we want to learn
something that's not a usual thing, the school makes it happen. Those
subjects can be very interesting. The most interesting ones are the
subjects the other students choose that the rest of us never thought
of. I said that in class, and in the next class, which was on
psychology in communication, I was assigned to write a paper on it.
That was fun. We sometimes like more what the other person has, than
what we have, even if we wouldn't like it very much if we already had
it. Human nature is REALLY funny!
How we study and learn at Horizon is different from other schools,
and secret for our security. Our textbooks are in crystals. We read
them by putting them to our forehead. It works like instant
memorization. Then we discuss it and do labs and write papers on it,
only we don't actually write anything, and we don't use paper. Our
computers are operated mentally. We use headsets that run them like the
computers are part of our bodies. After we learn how, we can create a
thesis in about a minute, which saves a whole lot of time. The faster
we do all that, the faster we can learn, and the more we can learn. Kam
and I have a little problem with that. Because our parents are Senior
Adepts, and because we have the highest IQs in the school, and because
we learned a lot at home before we came to the school, we can learn a
lot faster than everybody else. The teachers know, but we try to keep
the other people from noticing that too much. The crystal books have a
safety feature. If you aren't ready to have the next one, it won't work
for you, or you could be hurt. That's based on intelligence and on how
well you can manage your mind. Most of the students can take a crystal
every other day. Some can take as much as two a day. Cam and I can take
as many as we want to, with no problems. That's a LOT of learning!
That's because it's one college course per crystal, and not just one
textbook. We are going to have some masters degrees by the end of the
school year.
Our learning is very individualized, because we all have different
abilities and interests, and we don't have many students. It's a very
small school in numbers, but big in physical size. In academics, I'm
expect to have degrees in psychology, math, physics, and education,
first. Then I'll go for history, religion, art, engineering, and
galactic studies. I haven't decided what I'll go for next year. I'm
already a junior black belt in some martial arts, and I'm learning a
lot more here. I'm studying gymnastics and weapon sports, and dance,
because those things are required. We work very hard, but it's a lot of
fun, too. Everybody is so nice. We love each other. Learning is fun,
but it's very hard work.
What we do for play, is something other schools don't do, at least
not so adults know. We call it a recess. We have two available each
day. We can choose one a day in the morning or the afternoon. There are
special rooms for it. Sexplay. It's mutual masturbation in large
groups. We don't have to go to recesses, and most first year students
don't, because they usually aren't interested in that so young. I'm not
that much, myself. What I do at night in bed with Ed is fun, but not
enough fun to keep me away from the other school activities I love so
much during the day. I go to a recess once a week to keep social ties
going. Because we can feel the feelings of other people here, I'm very
popular in the recess because of my extra nut sensitivity. It's really
wild when they lick them, and I have to control the feeling so the
whole school won't feel it with me, so it's just for those in the room.
They absolutely love it! Not that I can complain, but in a way I can.
Some of the boys and girls think they are in love with me. Kam thinks
that's funny. Or she did, until some girls started feeling the same
about her. It's not good that young kids like us should be in sexual
love. We don't want to hurt them, but they know we feel that way. It
doesn't change how they feel. We are all a little frustrated by it, but
we all love each other more than anything, which the recesses help
encourage, so we accept what is.
Some things we do we don't have room for at the school. We do those
things on another world called Allguard. Dad made a city there and a
very big sports complex. Dad and Mom, and the other Guardians, which
are Senior Adepts from Earth and all over the galaxy, sometimes have
meetings in the city, called Guardhome, but nobody lives there. Dad
made the city as an art project. He made the sports complex first, for
our school, and the other schools like ours on other planets to use.
It's got everything from shooting ranges to gigantic swimming pools.
Sometimes the pool area there is used for big recesses, which happen
about once a month. First year students don't go to them.
What I like most about learning at school is mind management. We
learn how to study, different ways of thinking and how to do them, and
how to separate thinking into different streams. All that needs a lot
of practice, but being inside your head means you can do it any time. I
do it a lot. I told that to Dad one weekend at home, and he said, "Tell
me exactly what you do." I did. Then I said, "Did you almost say a
wow?" We laughed, because that's a joke with our family, because we
hear wows a lot from regular people. He said, "I've never heard of
anybody actually and successfully creating true synesthesia
intentionally like that, and using the mind like a musical instrument."
I said, "I know. I checked. Some composers and artists might have had
the condition, but were born with it. I can turn my experiments on and
off." He said, "Just make really sure you can always do that!" I said,
"Right, or people will wonder why I'm laughing at the funny colors
their words make." He said, "True." He tickled me, and we laughed
together.
Dad said, "Your parallel thinking is unusual for your age. It's
usually taught later in the curriculum. I think you need it fully now.
Pete agrees. Yes, I just told him. There are different ways we can do
this. One way, is you can go to the classes on it, and practice a lot.
Another way is I can teach you directly inside your mind. I think I
know which way you prefer." My excitement really showed. Maybe because
my whole mind and body were vibrating. He said, "Because you are
already significantly in advance of the other students who would be in
that class, I think we should bypass that and go for the direct
approach. AFTER you calm down."
Then it happened. My mind felt like my stomach felt when I ate too
much. More than filled up with something wonderful and nice. That was
Dad's mind inside mine. I had to say wow! He said inside me, "We hear
that a lot." Laughing inside is very strange. Then he went around in my
mind and showed me things I didn't know were there, and how to move
them around and make compartments to work independently. Then he left
my mind. I cried really hard. He said, "Sol! What's wrong?" I said,
"You left me!" He said, "Oh. Er, why are you crying?" I said, "I love
you! I loved you inside me!" He said, "Oh." I said, "I think it's
against the rules to say that twice in a row." He stared at me for a
second, and then had to laugh. I had to grin at that. He said, "So
you've been learning from my TV shows." I said, "Sure. Probably more
than the people who should have." He said, "Absolutely!" We just hugged
for a while. He said, "Humor is a good tool. Great medicine for bad
times, not just because it doesn't cost anything, but because if you
don't have it, it could cost a lot." I said, "True. I like that. Is it
in that thing you made for Sera?" He said, "Now, yes." I said "Good!"
I said, "Dad, I just thought of something. You make illusions. Do you
do it by pushing mental pictures out of your mind into the air?" He
said, "Yes, that's basically how we do it." I pushed some pictures of
my light and colors images into the air like a video. I filled the
whole living room with the show. I made it last two minutes. Dad said,
"Wow! Yes, that really deserves it!" We did a lot of hugging and
kissing. He said, "Sol, please take some advice. That is much in
advance of practically all the students. They already think a little
too much of you, and I know you're uncomfortable with that." I said
"Got it. I won't show it around. Alright if I practice it in my bedroom
here when I'm alone?" He grinned, and said, "Sure. But when are you
ever alone?" We poked each other and laughed.
