Doctor Who - The Sea Devils
Uncut Soundtrack by Malcolm Clarke
BBC Radiophonic Workshop 1972
When I was putting this together, I noticed a lot of sequences not included on the CD release ('Doctor Who at the BBC Radiophonic Workshop - Volume 2: New Beginnings') And also a lot not used on TV (the cliffhanger and proceeding recap on Episode 1 is a prime example of both). This version has 18 minutes more material than the CD. Some tracks are similar to others, but with different tempo, EQ, volume, mixed into other tracks...
Examples:
13 - Bribing the Locals - a great but short cue, also used at the beginning of '10 - To the Naval Base' - but at a slower tempo and different EQ.
18 - Stranded on the Fort - the cliffhanger to Episode 1 was not used on TV or the CD and the Episode 2 recap was not on the CD (the first 2 'beats' come in over the theme music, but with some careful editing and mixing, I was able to make it one track, only losing one 'beat' - occuring at 1'39.5")
24 - A Masterly Salute - not on TV or CD
25 - Distracting the Staff - first 56" not on TV - but is the same as the last 56" of the next track. The ending of the first version is mixed over other sounds, as is the beginning of the second version, which has slightly different EQ settings and volume.
41 - A Word With The Doctor - not on TV (possibly not on CD either) - have attached this scene with music in mp3 format (there will be a few extras like this on the final release)
47 - Jo Comes Up With a Plan - not used on TV - and highly amusing! It's well worth watching this scene with the music. It occurs at exactly 12'38" for 22".
I have included 4 scenes with music restored (originally left off TV episodes) - one is a video file (the reasons for which are obvious upon watching!).
The last 2 'sound effect' tracks were on the main soundtrack (Episode 6) - the Sea Devil incapacitating sound the Doctor's tampering with the device makes, and the Sea Devils' device failing. The first noise is sooooo hideous and goes on for sooooo long, I thought it best left out of sequence and placed at the end of the album. Same with the other sound - and a nice effect to end the album on!
Tracks 99 & 100 are bonus mp3 tracks, and arenot intended to and can't be burnt to CD - which mas a 99 maximum track limit.
