These are suggestions from the Bat Cave. We have posted over a million
images, and we have learned a few things along the way. We will pass
them on, but be aware our advice is worth what you pay for it. What you
do with our suggestions is up to you....
A) Change your username. The spammers are using several variants of
"LS-" as a username every day. Presumably you don't wish to be confused
with spammers.
B) Never use the phrase "Post Description". This phrase is used by the
worst spammer on Usenet every day. It is probably the most killfiled
phrase in the world. If you want people to see your posts, don't look
like a spammer. The worst possible phrase to use in a post description
is, ironically, "post description".
C) Keep your posts around 5000 lines. News servers around the world are
configured differently, and although *your* server may accept larger
articles, many around the world will reject them. We have tested this,
and we think sticking to around 5000 lines is the best way to make sure
your articles propogate.
D) Don't monkey with beta posting software. Get PP A&A, pay attention
when you configure it, and worry no more. Now here is a crucial tip: USE
A SINGLE CONNECTION TO THE SERVER WHEN YOU POST. DON'T USE MULTIPLE
CONNECTIONS. News servers will report a successful upload back to you,
but when you check later the file is not there. We had many problems
with this. Throttling back your posting software will solve this
problem. Worked for the Batcave.
E) Raise your PAR percentage. Videos are different from imagesets, which
is one reason we don't post them. With video it is crucial that the user
can recover a missing section. You need to raise your PAR percentage far
above what you're using now.
I'll probably think of something else later, but anyway thanks for
posting. We must keep Usenet live.
