Thanks for that. I'd started to suspect Newsrover.

I've tried unsubscribing, shutting down Newsrover, subscribing again and
forcing download of all headers. Now I've got a group with 1.9m headers
which shows as empty.

I've had a fish around the data files but not noticed anything awry.

When I get the chance I'll do all the above with a computer restart as well.
