Circular - Cycles Of Remembrance.nfo
GENERAL INFORMATION
=====================
Album: Cycles Of Remembrance [2 CDs]
Artist: Circular (aka Johannes Riedel)
Year: 2010
Genre: New Age / Electronic / Dark Ambient
DESCRIPTION
==================
Circular is the music project of Johannes Riedel. He is also part of the ambient project Fjernlys, but Circular is his solo work. In 2006 he had a great debut with Shaping the Unknown, on Loki Foundation. It had the kind of mystic quality and deep space immersions we love from Inade, though Circular has a sound all its own. In 2008 came the inevitable split with Inade, Deep Space Illumination, which was released on the Loki sublabel Skogholt. At the end of 2010, Circular returned with a second album, Cycles of Remembrance.
With Cycles of Remembrance, Johannes Riedel shows a striking progression in his sound, a continuation were Shaping the Unknown left off if you will. Cycles of Remembrance offers 9 track with around 47 minutes of music. What makes Riedel different then some in the experimental ambient field is that he is a classically trained musician, so his knowledge of composing songs can be heard in the structures of his music; not being mere experimental collages, but have a real feel of composition to them.
With Cycles of Remembrance, Circular has created an excellent follow-up to his also excellent debut album. Where Shaping the Unknown had a more minimal sound, with Cycles of Remembrance the sound has grown with more elements. It still has the minimal qualities, but it also has a wider sound. What is especially striking about Circular's sound and then with this album is how much involved the listener is. You really get immersed into this world and it's very hard to turn it off. It takes you on an aural trip, which let you journey deep into your subconscious. Highly recommended!
There was also a limited edition of 100 copies of this album released, which are hand-numbered and came with an extra CDr, which is a live recording at Kosmo Kino Plaza in Paris.
