Album: The Sun Is Just The Sun, But The Stars They Call The Heavens
Artist: Markus Reuter and Zero Ohms
Year: 2011
Genre: New Age / Electronic / Abstract / Ambient
DESCRIPTION
==================
This is a new collaboration between the German touch guitarist Markus Reuter & American woodwind experimentalist Zero Ohms. The name of Reuter will be familiar to most DiN aficionados for his three solo collaborations with label boss Ian Boddy although his musical influence extends well beyond DiN. He is rapidly establishing himself as a producer, performer and contemporary composer of note with a multitude of projects including most notably his collaboration under the banner of Tuner with King Crimson's drummer extraordinaire Pat Mastelotto. Zero Ohms is a new entrant into the panoply of DiN artists but he has been very active for many years in the fields of ambient electronica with his unique combination of flute, woodwind and electronics. He has released many albums including most recently Beyond The Portal (a collaboration with synthesist Craig Padilla) on the Lotuspike label.
The Sun Is Just The Sun, But The Stars They Call The Heavens is being released as a digital only release on the DiNDDL label and features seven tracks spanning almost 68 minutes of beguiling, atmospheric ambient tracks. The creative process involved Reuter sending Zero Ohms a mesmerising collection of his touch guitar loops and atmospheres. Ohms then sifted through these selecting out the tracks he felt the most empathy with before adding layers of flutes and wind-synths as well as a selection of field recordings that add a dreamlike tapestry of extra detail to the tracks. The pieces where then sent back to Reuter for mixing and further refinement with the final result showcasing a seamless blend of the two composers artistic palettes.
