Yes, a Pi3 (or Pi2) would work too.

However, on the Pi3 I would use an Ethernet cable connection instead of the
built in wifi.  Just to make sure you have a perfect connection.

I used a Zero because it draws so little power and I can leave it up and
running all the time.  I also have a Pi2 and 3 but those are dedicated to
other tasks.
