INTRO : The concept of trance has a long and complicated history. Originally "a dazed, half-conscious or insensible condition or state of fear," the meaning has evolved to include many unusual or altered states of consciousness associated with hypnosis, meditation, magic, prayer, addictions, and ecstasy.
Trance states are characterized by repetition, so music is a prime instigator in both ethnic and social cultures, including a high-energy style of electronic dance music.
