DESCRIPTION
==================
There's no messing about here, we get straight into a forceful rhythmic yet melodic sequence. A moody melody plays alongside it and pads float underneath creating a sense of wonder as thunderous drums join the fray making 'The Chosen One' a highly charged and exciting start to a truly wonderful album. The thing is the track just gets better and better. A fantastic melancholy lead line scythes over the top, the music becomes increasingly more powerful and ends on a flourish of drums. The first half of the nineteen minute 'No More Fear' on the other hand is in complete contrast. A bell chimes out over wonderful thick swirling pads. This is superb atmospheric picture music of the very highest order conjuring up images of desolate alien landscapes. The pads swell and combine together being so dense as to make your whole body vibrate. When the flashing lead line makes its entrance it is just as menacing and brooding. Its given added bite by being backed by a great rolling rhythm - again very bass laden. The pace quickens and we are now hurtling forwards at great speed. Its all extremely exciting stuff.
'Mystic Cave' begins with yet more deep undulating pads. Slow mysterious melodies ooze from the atmospheric backdrop then in the fifth minute thunderous deep rhythms, as from the very depths of the Earth, pound out. They are so deep that they don't actually sound that loud - just vast. A new scintillating lead scorches over the top, its sharpness contrasts the bass rhythm resulting in us having sounds from both extremes of the audible spectrum. It's a track that is very easy to appreciate and yet extremely inventive at the same time. It's a balance which many strive for but few pull off. 'After the Abduction' is again darkly brooding. Ghostly noises issue from the speakers. Deep sawing string sounds are added and a melancholy flutey synth lead increases the feeling of loss and hopelessness. Atmospheric music really doesn't get any better than this. 'A New Start' also begins darkly with great cavernous echoing sounds. A slow high register melody strikes up as if a ray of light is shining through the darkness. In the fourth minute an aggressive rhythm develops and then bounds forwards as we go into warp drive. Again its all storming and full of excitement, the lead lines sound triumphant as we move from one glorious high to the next.
'Wavegames' brings the album to a conclusion in equally aggressive and brooding fashion to the previous number. Its all so moody and full of almost manic anger as more and more rhythms are gradually piled on top of each other - someone's for it - just hope its not you! This album has it all, some of the best atmospheric passages you could ever ask for but also rhythms and sequences which will shake the foundations. Amazing! (DL)
