DESCRIPTION
==================
Vibrasphere are a two-piece progressive psychedelic trance act from Sweden. These guys abandon the blazing fast beats of "normal" psytrance for slower albeit more pleasant beats with generous use of samples. Their music is, however, serious stuff --- it's not dance or house, and I would rather listen to Vibrasphere on a pair of good headphones (leaning back on my favorite chair with my eyes closed) than in a loud party.
This album and their previous one, Archipelago, are excellent examples of their progression in progressive psytrance (no pun intended). Archipelago is still somewhat psytrance, but the last track on that album, "Tierra Azul" (an atmospheric 7-minute masterpiece) seems to give a hint of things to come (i.e., this album). Most songs on Exploring the Tributaries are atmospheric. Starting out with the slow "Heading North", Vibrasphere craft exquisite music with each song. Almost all songs involve excellent samples (many from nature, such as leaves rustling, crackling of streams, etc.). While few tracks have psytrance-like beats, many do not. My personal favorite, the dreamy "Mountain Lake", can certainly not be called "psytrance", though I cannot guarantee that it will not put you into a trance :). The album ends with the short but quaint "Yaku", where the sample includes words spoken in the ancient Incan (or was it Mayan?) language.
Vibrasphere are indeed exploring all tributaries of their repertoire here. This is a solid album, and may be a gentle introduction to those of you looking to get into (or get your friends into) psychedelic trance. If you like this one, also get their earlier album, Archipelago.
