.. About This Release .......................................
: :
: I don't know a whole lot about Shannon Wright other :
: than this is her debut album. She has a follow up to :
: this called "Maps of Tacit", which is also worth a :
: listen. What i like about this album is the sincerity :
: of it. It sounds like she spent a lot of time with her :
: guitar just expressing thoughts, feelings, or :
: situations that consumed her. Anyone looking for :
: genuine music and talent should support this girl as :
: she seems to be interested in a lot of things more :
: important than $$$$$$$$. :
: :
: "disgusted with bullshit music industry practice...", :
: it says in the Press Release for Shannon Wright's debut :
: album, "...she began to sort through the decomposed :
: aftermath with only her guitar and her neighbour's :
: piano to guide her..." And from those ashes, comes :
: flightsafety, eleven songs very much in the proud :
: tradition of the American singer/songwriter, somewhat :
: raw but very much fully formed. Much is often made of :
: the "emotional state" of female songwriters in relation :
: to the music they make, but while this album is :
: "inspired by desperation and solitude" what's more :
: evident when listening to it is that Shannon has a :
: great talent for composing, performing and producing :
: her work. The imagery is simple and direct, "I croon :
: like a lumber crane/sank quick inside your snare" on :
: rich hum of air, for example, and "built a house made :
: out of blood/fought the serpent and his thugs" on yard :
: grass. As well as singing, Shannon plays virtually :
: every instrument here, including guitar, drums and :
: hammond organ. The only contributions here are small :
: ones; from Sibel First (Cello on two songs), Eric :
: Bachman (Piano on one) and Joey Burns (Bass and Guitar :
: on three). Somehow, Shannon Wright must've rationalized :
: her disgust of the music business, because here is her :
: album, packaged in an industry standard jewel box. :
: Contrary to many people's experiences, I'm sure it's :
: not such a bad place to be. :

: We at NuHS have just celebrated our 1 year anniversary, :
: racking up 2650 releases since our inception. All of us :
: are music enthusiasts, and that shows in the wide :
: variety of material we release, specializing in indie :
: and alternative music. :
: :
: We're more interested in releasing music we love than :
: coming out with Top 40 releases. Without us, those :
: albums will still be released. Rather, we bring artists :
: and albums, new and old, that might never see the light :
: of day if NuHS wasn't around. :
: :
: Come around and visit us at #NuHS. We're a family of :
: music enthusiasts who love to talk shop. If you're :
: thinking about joining, and buy music on a regular :
