Aliotta, Haynes & Jeremiah - Readme.txt
Citizens of the 2nd City; long-suffering Cub fans, rejoice!
This is a vinyl rip of the 1971 Aliotta, Haynes & Jeremiah album, Ampex
Records LP A-10119. I ripped the tracks using a Sony USB turntable and
Sound Forge software. I didn't use any noise reduction or Sony's Vinyl
Restoration plugins. After ripping I cleaned up the recordings using
Cool Edit (which is now Adobe Audition in Adobe's creative suites) as I
prefer Cool Edit to Sound Forge for cleaning up LP rips. I put an
approximately .4sec logarithmic fadeup start for all tracks so each
track begins with silence. I also tried to fade out all of the tracks to
silence, keeping all discernable signal as long as the surface noise
wasn't markedly higher than the song. I used Cool Edit's noise reduction
transform using the LP's surface noise profile FFT on all the tracks
with the exception of the 1st and 3rd tracks. Those tracks didn't really
sound any differently with or without noise reduction because they are
relatively louder than the other tracks. After that I used Cool Edit's
Single Pop/Click filter to remove as many of the ticks and pops that I
could identify. This is a fairly benign filter and does a very good job
of removing impulse noise without affecting the overall sound. It's also
very time-consuming if the vinyl is very noisy but my LP was pretty
clean after the noise reduction was applied. I think that the majority
of the audible ticks and pops have been removed but I wouldn't be
shocked if you find a few that I missed. Don't tell me about them; I'm
happy with the way it turned out.
I scanned the LP covers and used Photoshop to resize them to the correct
size for CD jewel cases. I also created a jewel box tray jpeg and a CD
disc label jpeg file using the front cover inset. I am including the jpeg
files in a zip file for those that might want to create their own covers.
I also included a MS Word document that can be used to print the cover
art into a fold out CD cover and a jewel tray insert. I know many people
won't use a MS Word document for fear of malware. My document is virus/
malware free but you're free to create your own using the artwork provided.
