I have been a fan of Steve Roach since 1989 and indeed his work is a constant reworking of earlier materials. That is part of the wonder of his achievements. He speaks of his composition as the generation of sound currents. I can't imagine how a listener who has heard a small sample of Roach's work reacts to a new release of his. I find that some new releases seem tamer and with fewer affects than others. Some are startling in their newness. There is a special joy with Roach in finding oneself swimming again in earlier sound currents and yet there is spray, bubbles and sparkling bits of sound that are fresh. Oceans - the man has written Oceans. I am listening to track 2 - Memories Unsuspended - just now. And I have been cycling the albums Earth Island and Suspended Memories. I would like to update my review with specific reference to 'The Ancestor Circle' but I have a LOT more swimming, surfing and diving the sound currents. I am uncertain what to report - that this track tastes like that other track on Memories Suspended? Immersion: For me its about Living in the Oceans of sound - breathing in and out. Being immersed in this track- in this album - in these albums in heavy rotation. I am immersed yet I am free to concentrate my mind and attention on a text - or relax and soak in the currents while doing the most mundane tasks - Immersion. - JUMBIE on November 5, 2014
